Eight arrests unfolded across Morong and Teresa on Friday as Rizal police cracked down on illegal betting rings. Busts happened hours apart, uncovering gear used for gambling along with stacks of money. Authorities moved swiftly after spotting suspicious activity near residential areas. Each case is moving forward with formal complaints lined up. Though quiet at first glance, the raids revealed well-hidden setups behind closed doors. Charges will follow as investigators sort through evidence collected onsite.
Morong Operation
Just after 7:40 p.m., officers from the Rizal Police Provincial Office joined forces with local police in Morong. Their joint effort unfolded on T. Claudio Street, deep inside Barangay Maybancal. Seven people were taken into custody during the move, but names came only through street tags: Ulysses led the list, followed by Jay, then Raldie stepped in next. Ian showed up afterward, alongside Noel, while Jonas made six, ending with Rexon tagged at last.
Police operatives reported that the seven persons were operating a numbers game, which is commonly called “bookies.” The recovery of money amounted to P3,415. Along with the money, seized from the suspects were calculators, notebooks, ballpens, betting receipts or lastillas, a plastic container, and a shoulder bag.
Teresa Arrest
Earlier that day, officers from the Teresa station got word from someone worried about activity below a house in Dulumbayan. Moving fast after that tip came through, they arrived by 6. The call had pointed them straight to a first-floor unit where things seemed off. Footsteps echoed as they approached, following up on what the neighbor described. What unfolded next began with quiet coordination near the entrance.
Authorities said Jose was reportedly engaged in illegal numbers game activities. Seized from his possession were betting stubs, receipts with written bet numbers, a ballpen, a sling bag, and cash amounting to P40.
Cases Being Readied
All 8 arrested individuals are now under police custody. Police said appropriate charges for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1602, as amended by Republic Act No. 9287, are being prepared for filing in court.
Rizal Police Provincial Director Eleazar Barber Jr. commended the operating units for their swift and coordinated response. He also emphasized the office’s firm stance against all forms of illegal gambling, saying the police will continue to strengthen intelligence-driven operations and urging community cooperation as part of efforts to sustain peace and order.
