Dutch Regulator Warns of Fake Lottery License Scam After Quick Boys Fraud

The Dutch Gaming Authority (Ksa) has sounded the alarm after uncovering a fraudulent lottery licence issued in the name of football club Quick Boys.

The licence was obtained through identity fraud, with scammers posing as the club’s chairman to trick the regulator’s application process. Quick Boys itself had no involvement and has been identified as a victim.

The licence was misused to set up websites including loterij.quickboys.nl, loterijenqb.com, besteloterijqb.com, and others. None of these sites belonged to Quick Boys. The Ksa warned that anyone entering personal details such as names, addresses, or bank information on these platforms could face phishing or identity theft.

“Consumers must be able to rely on a license from the KSA. We take very seriously the fact that a scammer has managed to mislead our application process,” said Ella Seijsener, director of permits at the KSA. “We immediately tightened the control of the identity of applicants and domain names that appear in the Gaming Guide”

The incident has been reported to the police, though the regulator has not disclosed details of the investigation.

Wider pattern of abuse

According to the KSA, this incident is part of a broader trend where scammers exploit the names of associations that legally run lotteries. The regulator revealed that it had recently prevented a similar attempt following additional checks during the licensing process.

It then advised anyone who purchased tickets from the fraudulent sites to contact their bank to attempt reversing payments, report the matter to the police, and notify both the Fraud Help Desk and the KSA.

Those who shared personal data should remain alert to suspicious emails, texts, or calls requesting further details or payments, the regulator warned.
