The tourism industry in Singapore continues to show signs of resilience towards the end of the year, with figures showing an increase in tourist numbers. The latest statistics from the Singapore Tourism Board show that Singapore recorded 1.29 million tourists in November. The tourist numbers show a 4.8 percent increase in tourist numbers from last year, with a cumulative total of 15.55 million in the first eleven months of 2025, registering a 2.7 percent increase over the same period last year. The statistics show that although the numbers appear to have normalized, they have not affected Singapore favorably with regard to tourist numbers.
A Mixed Picture for Overnight Stays
Although the numbers in terms of outright arrivals are quite positive, if one were to look a bit below the surface into these numbers, there is a degree of interesting information in terms of just how many of these people are staying over. The level of these stayover visitors in November actually followed a similar trend to total visitors, increasing by 4.8 percent to reach 953,200, with nearly three-quarters of all visitors staying in November staying over for at least one night. Looking over a twelve-month period leading up to November 30th, however, the level of stayover visitors remained unchanged at 11.50 million.
Visitors Spending Less Time
A further factor which can be linked is the small reduction in length of stay. Although the length of stay stood at 3.30 days in November, which is a small decrease from a year ago, it is 6.7 percent lower. The same is true when measured by January to November, wherein the average length of stay lessened by 2.2 percent to 3.49 days. Such a movement may be attributed to a change in travel behavior among tourists, wherein they would rather make short trips rather than make a vacation out of their travel.
Source Markets Remain the Same-Key
The tourist industry in Singapore appears to be dependent on its current regional catchment area. The source markets in the top three positions did not change for the first eleven months when compared to the previous month. China topped these with a total of 2.93 million visitors, Indonesia with 2.20 million, and Malaysia with 1.16 million.
Notably, performance in these major countries proved contradictory, with the China segment showing an inadequate 1.4 percent growth, although Malaysia performed exceptionally well with a total of 7.3 percent growth. Additionally, Indonesia showed a nominal decline with a decrease of 1.3 percent in visitors, but the duration of stay of Chinese visitors emerged higher than average at 3.74 days in contrast to an international average of 3.49 days.
The Role of Integrated Resorts
The appeal of Integrated Resorts is a very important factor in tourism in Singapore. The casino-resort duopoly in this country, which comprises Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands, continues to be a very important pull factor for tourist traffic internationally. These two establishments are operated respectively by subsidiaries of Genting Singapore Ltd and Las Vegas Sands Corp, and are very important in facilitating tourist traffic in the city-state.
Meeting Annual Targets
Now, with only a month left in the year, the industry is closely tracking these numbers to see if they will meet these expectations. The STB had expected a potential full-year estimate of visitor arrivals to come in at a minimum of 17.0 million to a maximum of 18.5 million. This will create an expected revenue of SGD 29.0 billion to SGD 30.5 billion. The final boost of the year in December will see if these targets can be achieved in 2025.
