VGW to Shut Down LuckyLand Slots, Keeps Chumba and LuckyLand Casino Running

VGW has confirmed that LuckyLand Slots will close permanently this September, ending the brand’s run in the sweepstakes casino space. The company told players in a Tuesday announcement that the shutdown will be gradual, with key dates marking the wind‑down.

Starting August 3, 2026, players will no longer be able to purchase Gold Coins, though they can continue using any Gold Coins or Sweeps Coins already in their accounts.

By August 24, games will stop running, but Sweeps Coins can still be redeemed for prizes. The final step comes on September 14, when redemption requests will close and access to LuckyLand Slots will be cut off entirely.

VGW thanked its community for “being part of our incredible journey,” while making clear that other brands in its portfolio will continue. LuckyLand Casino, launched in November last year, remains active alongside Chumba Casino and Global Poker.

At the time of LuckyLand Casino’s debut, VGW had said it was still weighing options for LuckyLand Slots.

VGW shakeup continues

The LuckyLand comes a few weeks after Laurence Escalante stepped down as chief executive and executive chairman of Virtual Gaming Worlds, ending his formal role at the company he founded.

VGW confirmed on July 3 that his resignation took immediate effect. Escalante had been on leave since January and will now turn his attention to personal matters, private business interests, philanthropy, and investing.

Mats Johnson, who has served as acting chief executive during Escalante’s absence, will remain in the role while VGW begins a global search for a permanent successor.

Johnson said the leadership team will continue guiding the company, adding, “We thank Laurence for these and many other achievements and contributions at VGW, and for the confidence he is showing in us – and all our 1,300 team members – to continue VGW’s successes in the future.”

Escalante’s leave followed charges filed against him in Western Australia, which VGW described as personal and unrelated to its operations. He faces allegations of family violence, burglary, and drug possession in Perth.
