The UK Gambling Commission just pulled Spribe’s operating license. They say Spribe kept running gambling services without the right approvals, even after being warned several times to knock it off.
This isn’t just about one company. The regulator’s making it clear—they’re watching everyone, not just the sites people play on, but also the businesses behind the scenes that build and power those online casinos.
The regulator clarified that while Spribe has held a gambling software license since 2020, this did not extend to the hosting services it was offering. Under UK law, a remote casino (game host) operating license is required for companies that host casino gaming content through other operators’ platforms.
The UKGC stated:
“If you are a gambling software business that provides facilities for playing casino games but only in circumstances in which you host those facilities through other operators’ platforms, then you may be eligible to hold a remote casino (game host) operating license.”
Spribe is a big name, mostly because of its game Aviator, and it’s still active in a bunch of other places—Malta, Gibraltar, the Netherlands, Sweden, Ontario, just to name a few. They’ve also got some flashy partnerships, like working with UFC fighters Merab Dvalishvili and Alex Pereira.
By suspending Spribe, the UKGC is sending a pretty strong message: they’re serious about tightening control and drawing clear lines between companies that make casino software and those that actually run games for players.
