GLI Africa (Pty) Limited and BMM Test Labs Uganda Limited have received approval from the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) as independent gaming testing laboratories. This accreditation, which is valid for three years, designates the two labs as authorized testing entities for the gaming and betting sector in Uganda, ensuring compliance before any licensing takes place.
These new laboratories will play a vital role in the Ugandan betting market by inspecting, testing, and certifying gaming machines, devices, and software prior to their launch or operation. This process is essential for maintaining integrity and fairness within the industry.
The NLGRB operates under Section 37(3) of the Lotteries and Gaming Act CAP 334, which empowers the board to partner with independent entities for testing gaming machines to ensure they meet established standards. License holders or applicants are required to submit their machines for testing and must retain proof of test results.
To facilitate this, the NLGRB initiated a competitive selection process aimed at identifying and prequalifying independent laboratories capable of delivering testing and certification services.
Both Companies Issued Certificates of Registration
After thoroughly reviewing the applications from GLI Africa and BMM Test Labs, the Board confirmed that both companies met the necessary requirements set out in Regulation 13(2) of the Lotteries and Gaming (Gaming and Betting Machines) Regulations, S.I. No. 10 of 2017.
As a result, during its 144th meeting, the regulator approved their applications and granted them certificates of registration. The NLGRB emphasized that this pre-qualification process is designed to enhance regulatory oversight and ensure compliance with gaming laws and standards.
By aligning the gaming industry with global best practices, the Board aims to foster greater trust among the public and stakeholders in the integrity of gaming operations.
