Germany’s biggest sports betting and online gaming operator, Tipico, has officially joined the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA).
The Brussels-based trade group represents many of Europe’s largest regulated operators, including bet365, Betsson Group, Entain, Flutter Entertainment and Kindred Group.
By becoming a member, Tipico strengthens EGBA’s presence in Germany and other German-speaking markets, while also gaining a seat at the table in European policy discussions.
The company will now take part in EGBA’s working groups, which focus on areas such as responsible advertising, safer gambling practices, and anti-money laundering measures.
Tipico public policy director Jochen Weiner said: “As a company committed to player protection and regulatory excellence, we look forward to contributing our expertise to EGBA’s important work. This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to promoting high industry standards and our fight against the black market for online gambling in Europe.”
Move aligns with Tipico’s new focus on local regulation
Tipico’s entry into EGBA comes with a pledge to follow industry standards that go beyond national licensing rules. These include the pan‑European code of conduct for responsible advertising, as well as strict guidelines covering anti‑money laundering and data protection under GDPR.
Membership also means regular checks with every operator in EGBA, mandated to undergo an annual independent audit, usually carried out by agencies such as eCOGRA. These reviews look closely at player protection measures, including the use of “markers of harm” designed to spot risky gambling behavior early.
Tipico’s own reporting shows it has already kept turnover linked to problematic play below 1.5% in 2024. Joining EGBA fits with its wider plan to operate only in regulated markets and to take part in European safety initiatives, such as the yearly Safer Gambling Week.
EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer expressed excitement at the latest addition to the group, stating, “We’re delighted to welcome Tipico to EGBA and to start 2026 with such a strong addition to our membership.”
“As Germany’s leading online gambling operator with a strong track record, Tipico brings valuable expertise to our association and will reinforce our collective efforts to promote a well-regulated and sustainable gambling sector in Europe. We look forward to working closely with our new colleagues on our shared commitment to high industry standards.”
Tipico continues to make big decisions
Tipico’s EGBA move lands amid major movements within the company. Banijay Group agreed late last year to buy a majority stake in Tipico for about €4.6bn and fold it together with Betclic under a new banner, Banijay Gaming.
On a pro forma basis, the combined business posted around €6.4bn in revenue and €1.4bn in adjusted EBITDA in 2024, placing it as Europe’s fourth‑largest listed operator with nearly 6.5 million active players.
Tipico holds more than half of Germany’s market and runs an omni-channel model, a strong digital platform backed by over 1,250 retail shops across Germany and Austria. The company widened its reach by acquiring the Admiral brand from Novomatic, deepening its presence in Austria.
To focus on core growth assets, the group has sold its majority stake Bet‑at‑Home as it integrates into Banijay Gaming. The Banijay-Tipico deal is expected to clear financial and regulatory hurdles by mid-2026, according to NEXT.io reports.
