The Ithuba National Lottery: A Game-Changer for Uganda

Since the Uganda National Lottery launched a few months ago, it has significantly impacted the country. Operated by ITHUBA, the lottery has created winners and positioned itself as a driver of national development.

One of the most notable success stories involves Nantamu Emmanuel, a peasant farmer from Busowobi in the Bugiri District. The General Manager of ITHUBA Uganda, Eric Mabuza Jnr. provided details in a statement:

“Every day across Uganda, I meet people whose lives are being changed not just by the thrill of winning, but by what the Lottery stands for. Take Nantamu Emmanuel, for example. A humble peasant farmer from Busowobi in the Bugiri District, he bought a ticket and won a massive UGX 186 million LOTTO jackpot. He’s one of over 600,000 winners to date. What makes this even more remarkable is that stories like his are not rare. Winners have come from Kisoro, Koboko, Lira, Mbale, Luwero, and Hima, proving that the Lottery’s impact stretches into every corner of Uganda.”

This major win highlights the Uganda National Lottery’s impact on the lives of Ugandan citizens.

A Nation-Building Initiative

ITHUBA’s involvement in the Uganda National Lottery goes beyond creating individual winners. The company has emphasised that its primary goal is to drive national progress through lottery proceeds. Unlike many national projects funded by the government or foreign aid, this lottery is powered entirely by Ugandan players. With every UGX 600 DAILY LOTTO ticket or UGX 1,000 POWERBALL play, participants can anticipate wins translating to financial gains.

ITHUBA’s track record in South Africa provides insight into how a national lottery can be leveraged for development. Over the past decade, ticket sales have generated more than $650 million for public projects, including education, healthcare, and housing. A similar approach is being implemented in Uganda, focusing on support for the AFCON 2027 tournament. Furthermore, the proceeds from the lottery will help fund the construction of world-class stadiums and training facilities, boosting sports and infrastructure in the country.

Ensuring Trust and Transparency

For any national lottery to succeed, transparency is essential. ITHUBA has implemented measures to ensure the integrity of the Uganda National Lottery, making use of fully digital systems to prevent tampering and fraud. The company operates under strict regulation by the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) and has expanded its reach through regional offices in Mbarara, Mbale, and Gulu.

Aside from guaranteeing fair play, ITHUBA has also placed a strong emphasis on responsible gaming. The company has partnered with counseling organizations to offer support to affected individuals. This ensures that the lottery remains a form of entertainment rather than a financial burden.

Driving Economic Growth Beyond the Lottery

Beyond the prize payouts, the lottery is having a ripple effect on Uganda’s economy. New job opportunities are being created, ranging from marketing professionals to retail agents and small businesses are benefiting from the increased activity. As a result, the Uganda National Lottery is evolving into more than just a game. It has become a driver of economic empowerment among citizens.

A Broader Impact Across the Country

ITHUBA’s involvement in Uganda is more than operating a lottery. It is a reflection of their commitment to sustainable national development. As the lottery continues to grow, so does its potential to transform lives, empower communities, and contribute to Uganda’s future. For players, buying a ticket goes beyond landing a big win. It is about being part of a larger movement shaping the country in ways far beyond the numbers drawn.
