SJM Resorts Ltd announced on Monday that one of Macau’s last remaining satellite gaming venues, Casino Fortuna, will close its doors at 23:59 on December 9, 2025. The closure of the downtown property is in line with the upcoming expiration of the satellite casino model, whereby third-party investors shared revenue with license holders, scheduled to be discontinued from 2026 onwards.
Final Days for Casino Fortuna
This announcement validates details from an internal staff communication earlier spotted by industry watchers, which had indicated the venue would cease operations by December 10. SJM provided the update in its role as gaming license holder for the satellite property via a press release on Tuesday, in the latest step of Macau’s regulatory transition away from the legacy satellite framework.
On Tuesday, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, DICJ, confirmed it will continue working closely with the Labour Affairs Bureau to monitor SJM’s commitment to the transfer of Casino Fortuna’s 553 employees. According to officials, during the process, the pay, benefits, and working conditions of all employees, along with any opportunities for new positions in the industry, will be fully protected.
Employee Transition Commitments
SJM detailed specific measures to support its workforce through the closure. All local staff directly employed by the company at Casino Fortuna will transfer to other SJM-operated casinos, assigned to gaming positions based on operational requirements. For non-SJM local workers at the venue, the group pledged priority consideration for open roles, along with appropriate assistance to ease their shift to new employment.
Customer accounts will also receive seamless handling. Patrons with unredeemed chips, deposits, or cash rebates can visit SJM’s self-operated casinos starting December 10 to settle balances. The company reaffirmed its dedication to fully honoring all patron obligations without exception.
Equipment Redistribution Strategy
Gaming infrastructure from Casino Fortuna, encompassing tables and machines, will not go idle. SJM plans to reallocate these assets across its portfolio of self-promoted casinos, maintaining overall gaming capacity within its network as the satellite model phases out.
Kam Pek Paradise Joins Closure List
In the meantime, the DICJ also announced that a second SJM-licensed satellite casino, Casino Kam Pek Paradise, run by Hong Kong-listed Paradise Entertainment Co. Ltd., has officially shut down on Monday at 11:59 p.m., it said. The bureau added that the closure went well, thanks to the cooperation among different government departments that kept everything in order and well-organized.
SJM similarly committed to reassigning its 584 direct employees from Kam Pek Paradise to other properties, underscoring consistent handling across its satellite closures.
