Sands China has once again demonstrated its support for responsible gaming in Macau by donating a total of MOP 1 million to non-government organizations in the region. The donation is expected to help 5 organizations in their efforts to promote responsible gaming in line with the policy of the Macao SAR government, as well as to further develop the responsible gaming ecosystem in Macau.
Long-Term Community Support
The latest donation continues a practice that Sands China has maintained for years. Since 2006, the company’s cumulative contributions for responsible gaming have reached nearly MOP 10 million, reflecting a steady focus on corporate social responsibility and public education. The company said it has worked over time to bring the concept of responsible gaming into the Macao community in a practical and consistent way.
On March 25, at The Venetian Macao, Michael Lee, vice president of concession administration and casino compliance for Sands China Ltd., presented a cheque to representatives from the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Service Coordination Office, Young Men’s Christian Association of Macau, Macao Leisure Industry Employees Home, and Bosco Youth Service Network. The donation is expected to help the 5 organizations carry out various activities to increase people’s understanding of responsible gaming.
Programs And Outreach
The groups receiving the donation will use the funding for initiatives that include parent-child financial management activities, roadshows, workshops, training sessions, sharing sessions, short film production, quiz games and community promotion days. These programmes are intended to keep responsible gaming messages visible in the community while reaching different age groups and audiences through practical and interactive formats.
Lee said Sands China has supported social service organisations for 21 years through annual donations, helping them deliver education, outreach and training across the community. Moreover, he pointed out that the company’s partnership for many years made the concept of responsible gaming becoming a part of the routine life in Macao. Further on, according to him, the company will keep developing various innovative and diverse ways of promoting responsible gaming to raise the level of public awareness and ensure the normal growth of the industry.
A Broader Responsible Gaming Framework
Sands China has been actively promoting responsible gaming for many years. In fact, the company has introduced a number of measures in the past. In 2004, Sands China became the first integrated resort operator to introduce a self-exclusion programme. Responsible gaming training followed in 2007 and has since been included in company-wide team member orientation, making it part of the organisation’s internal culture as well as its public outreach.
Last year, the company established the Sands Responsible Gaming Academy, which it described as a way to create a complete system for promoting responsible gaming while further strengthening Macao’s responsible gaming environment and culture. The academy added another layer to the company’s ongoing education efforts and formalised its commitment to the issue.
Promotion Efforts Going On
Sands China said its 2025 efforts included more than 150 responsible gaming promotion events, which attracted over 150,000 participants and provided more than 30,000 hours of training. These activities were aimed at improving awareness and knowledge among both team members and the public, while keeping responsible gaming at the centre of its community engagement work.
As the company noted, it will keep cooperating with representatives from various spheres of society in order to diversify the efforts to develop responsible gaming advocacy and education. This way, the company believes that its contributions could be helpful for the harmonious and sustainable development of the Macao community.
