Racecourse Media Group announces appointment of Nigel Railton as its new Chair

Racecourse Media Group (RMG) has appointed Nigel Railton as its new Chair, with the former Camelot UK CEO set to take up the position on October 1.

Railton brings board-level, commercial and leadership experience across media, consumer-facing businesses and highly regulated industries.

He currently serves as Chair of Post Office Ltd, a position he has held since May 2024. In the role, Railton is leading the organisation’s transformation programme and efforts to rebuild relationships with stakeholders. He is also a trustee of The Social Mobility Foundation.

Railton Brings Lottery and International Experience

Before joining Post Office Ltd as Chair, Railton served as Chief Executive Officer of Camelot UK, the operator of The National Lottery.

During his time at the company, he led a significant business turnaround, alongside sustained sales growth, record returns to good causes and an expansion of its digital operations.

Railton previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Camelot Global, where he developed the company’s international business and secured major lottery contracts across Ireland, Europe and the United States.

A qualified accountant, Railton earlier held senior positions covering finance, operations and strategy at Railtrack, Black & Decker and Daewoo Cars.

James Sanderson, RMG Non-Executive Director, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Nigel as Chair of Racecourse Media Group. Nigel brings an outstanding blend of commercial leadership, governance experience and strategic vision, gained through a career leading some of the UK’s most recognisable and highly regulated organisations.

His track record of delivering growth, embracing innovation and building strong relationships with stakeholders makes him an ideal fit for RMG and our shareholder racecourses. As we look to the future of racing media rights and fan engagement, Nigel’s leadership will be a tremendous asset to the business and the sport.”

Railton Looks to Build on RMG’s Position

Nigel said:

“I am delighted to be appointed Chair of Racecourse Media Group. RMG is a highly respected organisation with a proven track record of delivering value for its shareholder racecourses and helping to promote the sport to audiences around the world.

The media landscape continues to evolve rapidly, creating both opportunities and challenges. I look forward to working with the Board, Nick Mills and the wider team to build on the company’s success, strengthen its partnerships and support the long-term growth and sustainability of racing.”

Railton will officially begin his new role on October 1, succeeding Conor Grant. Grant will remain with RMG for a one-month handover period until November 1, having served as Chair since April 2023.

Conor Grant to Depart Following Handover

RMG CEO Nick Mills thanked Grant for his contribution to the organisation while welcoming Railton to the business.

RMG CEO Nick Mills added:

“Conor leaves RMG having made a significant and lasting contribution to the business. His guidance, support and leadership have been invaluable, and we are extremely grateful for everything he has done for the organisation and our shareholder racecourses.

At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome Nigel to RMG. I look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our audiences, strengthen our partnerships and maximise value for our racecourses.”
