The Puerto Rico Electronic Lottery is marking its 35th anniversary with a string of celebrations in various municipalities, leading to a grand finale show at San Juan’s historic Paseo de la Princesa. The activity, sponsored by the Bureau of the Puerto Rico Lottery, aims to thank citizens for their long years of patronage and to promote the institution as a contributory factor in the social and economic development of the island.
A Celebration Across the Island
Puerto Rico Lottery Bureau Assistant Undersecretary Heidi Hernández Olivo said the celebrations will run from July to November 2025. Throughout the celebration, the Lottery will visit public plazas in five municipalities, providing residents with an experience that combines tradition, entertainment, and live lottery draws.
The first celebration kicked off on July 18 in Ponce, at Plaza Las Delicias and the Parque de Bombas historic site. Spectators could witness the live daytime lottery draws from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., live on WIPR Television. The station, which showed El Mediodía, was transmitted directly from the event, and the party was filled with live music by Puerto Rican artist Oscarito, generating a festive mood.
Following the kickoff in Ponce, the anniversary tour will move on as follows:
- August 15 – Aguadilla
- September 19 – Plaza de Naranjito
- October 10 – Fajardo
All destinations will feature the same mix of live draws, music, and community events.
Grand Finale in Old San Juan
The celebrations will conclude on November 8 with a spectacular night at the Paseo de la Princesa, one of the most beautiful and culturally rich areas in Old San Juan. The event will feature live lottery drawings, music, and a diverse array of family-friendly activities, reiterating the Lottery’s intent to stay at the center of Puerto Rican life.
These activities, according to Hernández Olivo, are designed to thank the citizens and leave space for them to engage with the Lottery transparently and openly.
Economic and Social Impact
Over the last 35 years, the Puerto Rico Electronic Lottery has led the way in funding public services and community programs. In the last fiscal year alone, it generated over USD 122 million for the General Fund. The funds were allocated to vital sectors such as health care, education, sports, senior citizen services, and municipal aid.
“Due to the support of the people, the Lottery has been able to have a very tangible impact on Puerto Ricans’ lives“, Hernández Olivo stated. “We will keep laboring to offer new experiences and to maintain the transparency that has always defined us.”

The Puerto Rico Lottery Bureau has also been active with attempts to modernize its operations. The agency started the year on a high note with healthy sales growth, thanks to a strategy that maintains a balance of new game products and new technologies to offer stable sources of revenue.
Among the most significant developments has been the deployment of PlayCentral terminals, now available in 105 outlets. The terminals allow consumers to purchase lottery plays at retail, providing convenience to customers and expanding access across the island.
Hernández Olivo emphasized that incorporating old-school lottery drawings with new-world technology is part of a greater strategy to meet evolving consumer expectations without sacrificing the cultural and community aspects of the Lottery.
