Playtech has reported better commercial performance than expected for the second half of 2025, which led the gaming technology provider to raise its forecast for the company’s operating profitability for the current year. The company now expects to exceed €195m in adjusted EBITDA, “a figure that significantly surpasses the average analyst consensus of €177 million.”
This is a positive revision, coming off a particularly strong showing in the final quarter in the Americas, where both the United States and Mexico posted delivery levels that exceeded internal forecast expectations.
Investments in the Americas Begin to Translate into Profitability
Mor Weizer, the Chief Executive Officer of Playtech, also pointed out the importance of long-term regional investment in achieving these results. He said, “I am delighted with the strong performance we saw at the end of 2025. We have been consistently investing in our business in the Americas for a number of years, and I am especially pleased with our recent progress in the United States, as the benefits of our work are beginning to accelerate and translate into profitability.”
She also stated that the company still maintains an investment posture on the continent, where it sees prospects for growth opportunities.
Cautious Stance for 2026 Despite Positive Momentum
Although the company ended the year 2025 on a positive note, it indicated that it will adopt a cautious strategy in the succeeding year. Sportech’s rival, Playtech, admitted “caution in the face of sector headwinds”, even as it anticipated increases in gaming taxes in countries like the United Kingdom.
Despite this, the company stressed that the revenue trends in the Americas in the fourth quarter “provide the company with strong momentum heading into the new year.” The company reiterated its confidence in delivering its medium-term objectives of adjusted EBITDA between €250 million and €300 million, as well as free cash flow between €70 million to €100 million.
Strategic Partnerships and Changes in EBITDA Composition
Adjusted EBITDA calculation: This will include the operating loss of HAPPYBET and revenue from associated companies, particularly its participation in the Mexican brand Caliente Interactive, in which the company has a 30.8% share. This participation has been particularly relevant in recent periods, especially considering the performance of Mexico for Playtech.
“This performance cements our strategy of being focused on regulated markets, further solidifying our transition to a purely B2B business following our sale of retail division Snaitech,” the company said.
Regulatory volatility remains a key consideration in Latin America
In fact, as Playtech discussed their issues and concerns with SBC Noticias earlier this year within the context of 2025, their regulatory volatility within Latin American countries was a stated cause for concern. In fact, as Weizer discussed within this context, one of the causes for potential negative effects would be the increase in taxation on gaming within Mexico and Colombia.
The recent performance of the company, therefore, implies that although the issue of regulatory risk still persists, the positioning within the highly regulated and high-growth markets in the Americas provides a significant competitive edge to the company that will last for a while.
