Hong Kong-listed Century Entertainment International Holdings is further pushing itself into the digital gaming in the Philippines, where it has signed a memorandum of understanding with its local joint venture partner World Platinum Technologies Inc. The deal covers development, operation, and monetisation of mobile applications for online gaming, in yet another move of the company’s gradual shift from traditional table gaming to technology-led platforms.
Expanded MOU Signals Broader Push Into Mobile and Online Gaming
The MOU builds on a joint venture formed in June 2025 between Century Entertainment and WPT called Konphil Technology Company Limited. That entity began handling research, development, marketing, and sales of WPT’s gaming system platforms across the Asia-Pacific region. The new agreement expands that relationship substantially. Century Entertainment plans to develop 10 different types of mobile apps tied to WPT’s online platform and proprietary technology. If both parties execute a definitive leasing and operating agreement, the scope grows considerably beyond what they’ve already established.
The operational structure splits responsibilities clearly. Konphil handles player acquisition, marketing, business development, and the actual development and customization of the mobile applications. WPT brings its proprietary content and platform infrastructure, handles know-your-customer and anti-money laundering checks, onboards players, provides customer support, and supplies operational and technical assistance along with periodic performance reports. If a definitive agreement is reached, WPT receives 15 percent of net gaming profits from the apps, calculated and settled monthly.
Century Entertainment framed the MOU as advancing its strategy of expanding into digital gaming and technology-driven entertainment sectors. The company stated the arrangement leverages WPT’s experience and operational support while Konphil focuses on developing applications and acquiring players. Board leadership considers the MOU consistent with the company’s broader business direction and complementary to the existing joint venture and licensing arrangements already in place.
A Dramatic Strategic Pivot
This mobile app push marks a significant departure from where Century Entertainment sat just months ago. Last year it called off an agreement to operate gaming tables at a casino in Cambodia’s Dara Sakor, an arrangement that had been closely tied to the company’s then-chairman and CEO, Ng Man Sun. The veteran Macau junket promoter stepped down from his executive posts at the end of May 2025. That Cambodia deal’s collapse represented a major setback for the company’s table gaming ambitions.
Century Entertainment hasn’t entirely abandoned physical casino gaming. The company flagged in late 2025 that it had signed a non-binding letter of intent to operate gaming tables at a casino in Vietnam. That is a possibility still on the table, except without the clarity or momentum which once existed when Ng Man Sun held the reins.
The Macau Junket Era Fades
Century Entertainment’s history illustrates the shifting landscape for Macau-connected gaming players. Amax was a significant operator in Macau’s junket sector during Ng’s tenure. It leveraged his connections to the late Dr Stanley Ho. Amax once had held nearly 25 percent of the Greek Mythology casino, which it had written down as an asset in 2019, four years after Macau’s gaming regulator instructed the closure of the property. That writeoff symbolized how quickly fortunes changed for junket-focused operators once regulatory tightening began.
Now, separated from Ng’s leadership and navigating a fundamentally different operating environment, Century Entertainment is repositioning itself around software and digital platforms rather than junket connections and table gaming operations. The partnership with Philippines-based WPT and the focus on mobile app development represents a bet that technology platforms and regulated digital gaming markets offer better prospects than the traditional junket model that once defined the company’s business. Whether that pays off depends on player adoption and regulatory support for mobile gaming in the Asia-Pacific markets Konphil targets.
