The Liberian Senate has officially confirmed Peter Solo as the new Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) following a unanimous vote during its 41st day sitting on July 24, 2025. His appointment came after President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., nominated him earlier this month for the key position.
Solo brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the superintendent of Grand Gedeh County for six years until 2018. His contributions to local governance earned him recognition, including the prestigious title of Grand Knight Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption from former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf just before he left office.
This appointment is part of a broader initiative by President Boakai, who has nominated several individuals for key government roles. In a statement from the Executive Mansion, the President expressed confidence in the ability of his nominees to drive the nation forward, urging the Senate to act promptly to confirm them as part of the administration’s effort to foster reform and development in Liberia.
Solo Replaces Reginald Kpan Nagbe
Peter Solo steps into the role of Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), taking over Reginald Kpan Nagbe, whose term ends this month. Nagbe was appointed by former President George Manneh Weah in July 2022 and has led the NLA since then.
In his new position, Solo will oversee the implementation of policies and manage the daily operations of the NLA. He is expected to ensure the integrity of the organization while bringing fresh leadership and innovative ideas, drawing on his extensive background in public service.
Founded in 2015, the NLA is tasked with regulating games of chance in Liberia. Its primary goal is to generate revenue that supports social programs, particularly those aimed at enhancing education and welfare for individuals with disabilities.
