The recent Activa Research study provides a complete overview of Peruvian sports betting behavior and reveals that 40% of Peruvians engage in sports betting. Titled “Radiografía del Cliente de Apuestas Deportivas” and fielded in August 2025, the research provides an insight into frequency, spending patterns, demographics, and preferred betting channels among the players.
Betting Frequency and Spending Patterns
The survey determined that 4% of the respondents bet daily, 6% weekly, and 7% monthly. Additionally, 23% indicated that they bet occasionally, depending on the sporting event. Each bet, on average, is PEN 81.8, which is approximately USD 23.2.
There are also regional differences. The average bet in Lima is PEN 104.6, but this drops to PEN 56.4 outside of the capital. Age also has an effect on betting expenditures: the 45–59 years age group spends the most, averaging PEN 161.1 per bet. The 30–44 age group averages PEN 71.8, young adults in the 18–29 age range spend PEN 53.5, and individuals over the age of 60 average PEN 54.1.
Socioeconomic level is a relevant consideration. Highest spending is in the A-level segment with PEN 172.8, followed by B with PEN 89, C with PEN 67.2, and D with PEN 62.4. This, combined, renders middle-aged, affluent males in Lima the most active consumers, with the youth and middle socioeconomic classes representing a growing market outside urban areas.
Preferred Channels for Betting
Online channels are the backbone of Peruvian sports betting, with 78% of gamblers betting online. Among this, 36% bet using mobile apps, and 42% use websites. Only 22% bet through offline outlets. The report continues that the app usage is higher among A and B-type consumers, while C and D-type consumers use websites.
Factors Influencing Selection of Platform
In terms of timing of betting, 41% bet before the start of an event, 29% bet in-play during events, 27% combine multiple events into a single bet, and 18% try their hand at other markets such as the number of yellow cards or top scorers. Football is the clear preferred sport, accounting for 82% of all bets. The rest of the sports of volleyball (14%), basketball (9%), tennis (7%), and boxing (4%) receive far less attention, with 15% of gamblers betting on more than a single sport.
Trust and safety are the top concerns in choosing a platform, as stated by 42% of the participants. The ease of deposit and withdrawal options is next with 36%, while bonuses and promotions lure 32% and better odds entice 25%. Others consider platform ease of use (22%), variety of sports and events (14%), and recommendations from peers (6%).
Implications for the Market
Activa Research’s research indicates a mature, digitally driven Peruvian sports betting market with opportunities for growth within the youth demographic and secondary cities. Operators seeking to capture market share must prioritize establishing user trust, secure payment systems, mobile accessibility, and tailored promotional offerings.
The study also calls for targeted marketing efforts based on regional, age, and socioeconomic distinctions, with particular emphasis on older, affluent men in Lima and greater outreach to youth nationwide.
Overall, the Peruvian sports book environment depicts both extensive use by core players and a growing, technologically savvy market with space for further expansion, reflecting worldwide trends for online wagering.
