ABS Consulting Group Limited has partnered with the National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) to provide specialized training for its newly appointed compliance and enforcement officers.
This training equips the new team with essential skills to maintain high professional standards, including integrity, objectivity, confidentiality, and competence, as they carry out their responsibilities outlined in the updated compliance and enforcement manual.
Officers learned to apply evidence-based decision-making, adopt a risk-focused approach, and ensure proportionality and compliance during their evaluations. Information sharing and coordination were also highlighted as vital elements of their role.
Throughout the inspection process, the new officers were encouraged to engage with operators in a respectful and courteous manner, prioritizing their rights and privacy while ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
Risk-Based Approach to be Applied to Inspections
Emphasizing a risk-based approach, the recent workshop aimed to equip the enforcement team with strategies to target high-risk operators while minimizing the regulatory burden on those deemed low-risk and compliant.
During the final training sessions, participants delved into the practical aspects of planning and conducting inspections. They learned essential skills for documenting findings and reporting any non-compliance effectively.
As Uganda’s gaming industry expands, attracting a mix of local and international operators, the need for vigilant oversight has grown. In response, the NLGRB is rolling out reforms, including stricter licensing requirements and enhanced digital monitoring, to ensure responsible gaming and safeguard consumer interests.
