The African iGaming Alliance (AIA) has appointed Peter Kesitilwe as its inaugural CEO. Previously, Kesitilwe served as the CEO of the Botswana Gambling Authority, where he played a key role in expanding the regulated market.
His experience in the industry is expected to guide the newly formed trade group, which includes leading companies like BetPawa, SportyBet, 888Africa, and Betway.
This year, the AIA was established to support and promote the growth of iGaming across the continent. In May 2025, Betway made its entry into Botswana’s regulated market, an initiative that Kesitilwe publicly endorsed during its official launch.
“I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the AIA’s first CEO,” commented Kesitilwe.
“I look forward to working with regulators and policymakers to build a vibrant, sustainable & competitive industry that upholds the highest standards of responsible gambling and consumer protection.”
A Stacked Board
Kesitilwe will lead a board that includes representatives from each of the founding companies. This team features Dan Thomson from BetPawa, Gregory Parson of Sporty Group, Christopher Coyne from 888Africa, and Anthony Prissman, who is involved with all of Betway’s African market boards.
Prissman expressed enthusiasm about Kesitilwe’s appointment, stating, “Peter’s strong regulatory background and leadership experience bring immediate credibility to the AIA. We are excited to work with him to help shape a responsible industry across the continent.”
The AIA positions itself as the main voice for the online gaming industry in Africa, focusing on key goals such as promoting responsible gambling, ensuring fair competition, protecting consumers, and establishing sustainable tax frameworks.
