The Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos (IPLyC) of the Province of Buenos Aires has signed a new collaboration agreement with the Nexum Foundation. This collaboration aims to strengthen public policies related to the prevention of, and early detection of, problematic gambling, which is becoming a major issue in the digital age.
The agreement was formalized by the IPLyC President, Gonzalo Atanasof, and by the President of the Nexum Foundation, Pablo Carrera. According to information provided by the regulatory body, the alliance will work to develop specific areas to carry out work in the fields of training, dialogue, and awareness. A major goal will involve confronting the growth of illegal online gambling and its effects on younger age groups.
Strengthening the Fight Against Problem Gambling
This is demonstrated by the fact that, throughout recent months, the agenda of the IPLyC has greatly accelerated, especially concerning issues of the prevention and control of gambling addiction within the province, which is a problem that has assumed unprecedented relevance, owing to the pace of development of digital platforms and the alarm surrounding online gambling involving minors.
The new convention with the Nexum Foundation seeks to extend the premises of the existing initiatives through the use of an interdisciplinary approach. During the signing of the convention, Gonzalo Atanasof highlighted the importance of the initiatives: “We have been developing talks and meetings on a problem like that of child gambling addiction. This agreement will allow us to gain a new ally and reinforce a kind of public policy based on prevention, care, and coordination with civil society.”
A Multidisciplinary Strategy for Complex Challenges
The partnership will also initiate a series of interdisciplinary conferences that aim to assess problem gambling from different angles. IPLyC has emphasized that gambling addiction is a complex situation that is not easy to identify at early stages. As such, it calls for a unified commitment from:
Families and the educational system
The judicial and healthcare sectors
Security forces and State institutions
The representatives from the Nexum Foundation stated that it “allows for a plural and responsible perspective on a problem that crosses all levels of society and demands collective responses.”
Leadership and Oversight
The signing ceremony saw a notable group of official figures and specialists engaged in a common cause. The attendees include Juan Miguel Pulleston; Juliana Rulli, Provincial Director of Administration and Finance; Juan Manuel Vernengo, Provincial Director of Racetracks and Casinos; and Laura Spinelli, Director of Systems. From the Nexum Foundation, there is the presence of Dr. Nicolás Salvi, Vice President, Academic Committee member Dr. Raúl Dalto, and Juan Marchiano, together with Carrera.
This partnership represents a major leap forward in ensuring vulnerable members of society are protected against the dangers of the ungoverned online gambling sector.
