Nevada’s casinos reported another month of growth in August 2025, with statewide gaming revenue hitting $1.23 billion, a 5.5% rise compared to last year, according to figures from the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
The results were fueled by a strong surge in baccarat play on the Las Vegas Strip and a sharp upswing in sports betting through mobile platforms, though not all areas of the industry enjoyed the same momentum.
Baccarat and Table Games Lead the Way
Table and card games generated $411.8 million, up more than 12% from August 2024. Baccarat, long seen as a driver of high-roller activity, stood out with $116.5 million in revenue, a massive 52.6% increase year-on-year. The game nearly doubled its haul on the Strip alone, where baccarat revenue reached $115.6 million.
Mobile Betting Continues Rapid Expansion
Sports wagering also contributed significantly, climbing 68.1% to $42 million. Digital betting platforms accounted for the bulk of this growth, with mobile revenue almost doubling to $29.4 million. Football betting, boosted by the return of college games and NFL pre-season activity, jumped 85.9% to $16.3 million.
Regional Highlights: Strip Growth Offsets Weak Slots
Clark County delivered $1.03 billion in revenue, a 5.3% improvement over last year. Within that, the Las Vegas Strip accounted for $652.1 million, up 2%. While baccarat provided a cushion, slot machines told a mixed story. Multi-denomination slots increased by 14.2% to $508.5 million, but penny slots tumbled 31.2% to $93.1 million.
Downtown Las Vegas saw business climb 8.3% to $63.2 million, while North Las Vegas advanced 7.8% to $24.7 million. Other markets struggled: Laughlin fell 7.1% to $41 million, and the Boulder Strip slipped 1.1% to $84.8 million.
Northern Nevada and Other Markets
Outside Clark County, performance varied. Washoe County generated $102.8 million, an increase of 7.4%, with Reno leading the way at $76.1 million (+9.9%). Sparks posted a modest 3.2% rise to $15.7 million, while North Lake Tahoe dropped sharply by 15% to $3.1 million.
South Lake Tahoe had one of the best showings statewide, climbing 21.5% to $37.7 million. Carson Valley rose 8.9% to $12.4 million, and Mesquite improved nearly 10% to $15.1 million. Elko County was one of the few regions to retreat, slipping 0.8% to $32.4 million.
Data Breach and Broader Context
August also saw Nevada officials confirm that hackers had compromised state network data, though investigations into the breach are still ongoing.
The month’s performance follows a 4% revenue increase in July 2025, when Strip revenue climbed to $749.1 million. Earlier in the summer, Nevada casinos recorded $1.36 billion in June and surpassed $1.4 billion in May, underscoring the uneven but generally upward trajectory of the state’s gaming sector this year.
While the Strip continues to lean heavily on baccarat and mobile sports betting for growth, slot performance highlights the challenges facing some traditional revenue drivers.
