Midnite becomes first betting app to place a bet in space

28 april 2026 – Midnite has broken new ground in the betting and gaming industry by becoming the first app to successfully place a bet in space, reinforcing its reputation for innovation and ambition.

In a campaign designed to highlight its digital capabilities, Midnite launched a specially designed device into the upper atmosphere. Reaching an altitude of 124,000 feet, the device—equipped with a mechanically functioning astronaut hand—executed a live wager via the Midnite app.

The historic bet backed England to win the World Cup, available at odds of 6/1 through the app’s sportsbook.

The initiative was supported by Gareth Barry, who collaborated on the campaign to emphasize Midnite’s forward-thinking approach and the app’s ease of use.

Callum Wilson, Senior PR Manager at Midnite, commented:

“By sending our app to space, we are showing our customers that we are truly Built Different. We have big ambitions at Midnite to separate ourselves from the rest, and becoming the first app to place a bet in space seemed a pretty good way of doing that.

Our design and product team are very proud of the app we have created, and to showcase its prowess in another stratosphere is a representation of where Midnite aims to be.

The World Cup is of course a massive moment for sports fans across the globe, and the excitement is rising, whether at home, abroad, or even in space! It was great to work with Gareth Barry, whose confidence in Tuchel’s side led him to back England to win the World Cup, and if that bet comes in, Midnite will be donating £10,000 to the Bobby Moore fund as part of this campaign.”

Gareth Barry, former England midfielder who represented his country at the 2010 World Cup, added:

“I have confidence that this England side has what it takes to win the World Cup. They have the major tournament experience now, and they have a world class manager to take the next step. Much like Midnite, I think this side is Built Different, and I wanted to back them in a way that hasn’t been done before.

To get the chance to place a charity bet on England winning is great, but to see Midnite actually make it happen in space is amazing.

I couldn’t believe it, watching the thumb move to place the bet in such a stunning setting.

The app is clearly built different, working at such a height. I think England are too, which is why I think they can win the World Cup.

Midnite are making waves in the industry, and to be involved in a campaign like this where they continue to push the boundaries is something I’m really pleased about.”

To bring the concept to life, Midnite partnered with Sent Into Space, a company focused on making space more accessible through impactful missions.

With this milestone, Midnite continues to position itself as one of the most innovative betting and gaming platforms in the UK, pushing boundaries both on Earth and beyond.
