One of the most traditional year-end lottery draws in Brazil, called Mega da Virada, promises an unprecedented R$1 billion prize in 2025; it’s the biggest lottery ever offered in Latin America. The information came from Caixa Econômica Federal, after the bank noticed bets far beyond what was forecasted in the last 48 hours.
The draw will take place on December 31, at Caixa headquarters, and it will mark the first occasion on which a Latin American lottery prize has included a ten-figure amount.
Confirmation After No Winners in Regular Mega-Sena Draw
This estimate has been vindicated after the draw of Mega-Sena Lot No. 2,954, which took place on Saturday night in São Paulo. Of course, none of the numbers drawn, which included 01, 09, 37, 39, 42, and 44, appeared in any winning ticket, thus increasing the Mega da Virada prizes even more.
Caixa reports that the jackpot offered at the 2025 Mega da Virada lottery game has increased by more than 57% from the last edition, which awarded a prize of R$635,486,165.38.
Rule Changes Drive Prize Growth
Caixa attributed the record value to two structural changes implemented in the lottery’s rules:
The percentage of revenue from regular Mega-Sena draws allocated to Mega da Virada increased from 5% to 10%.
The distribution of prize funds was adjusted so that 90% of the total prize pool is now directed to the top-tier players who match all six numbers.
These changes significantly accelerated prize accumulation, especially in a year marked by strong player participation.
Special Draw Rules Remain in Place
As in all Mega da Virada draws, the lottery draw has some special rules. If nobody guesses all six numbers, there will be no rollover in the jackpot prize. Instead, the amount will go to those who guessed all five numbers (quina).

Within the last draw (No. 2,954), a total of 38 tickets won the quina prize, with R$ 69,615.66 awarded to each, while 4,069 won the prize of the quadra class, with R$ 1,071.64

How to Place Bets and Winning Odds
Betting is possible until 8:00 p.m. (Brasília time) at lottery retailers in Brazil or at the website and mobile application of Loterias Caixa. The digital pools (bolões) for bets are available until 8:30 p.m., exclusively online.
Payments via Pix or credit card, or Caixa online banking, are accepted. Participants must be 18 years or older.
Winning odds vary depending on the number of selected numbers. A standard six-number ticket, costing R$6, offers odds of 1 in 50,063,860. A maximum bet with 20 numbers, priced at R$232,560, improves the odds to 1 in 1,292, according to Caixa.
With expectations of long lines at lottery outlets and record participation, the final number of bettors and potential winners remains unknown as Brazil counts down to the year’s most anticipated draw.
