22 July 2026 – Media Troopers has reported encouraging early performance following the launch of Alberta’s newly regulated online gambling market, highlighting strong initial engagement during the first week of operations.
Alberta officially opened its competitive regulated market on 13 July, becoming Canada’s second province to introduce a competitive online gambling framework after Ontario’s launch in 2022. The new market creates fresh opportunities for operators and suppliers, while enabling companies to grow through regulated, responsible, and locally focused customer acquisition strategies.
Media Troopers described its Alberta launch as an important operational and strategic milestone for both the business and its operator partners.
Early Campaigns Deliver Positive Results
During the market’s opening week, Media Troopers supported marketing campaigns for six partner operators. The company recorded higher engagement across multiple verticals, alongside increases in first-time player registrations and first-time depositors.
The rollout is being introduced in phases, with Media Troopers continuing to refine its advertising channels and marketing campaigns as real-time performance data becomes available. The company is also onboarding nine additional operator partners as part of its planned expansion.
Commenting on the launch, Media Troopers CEO Shmulik Segal said the phased approach allows the company to continuously optimise campaigns while adapting to the dynamics of a newly regulated market.
Alberta Builds on Ontario’s Regulated Market Success
Media Troopers believes Alberta presents significant long-term potential due to its sizeable player base, strong income-per-capita and newly established regulatory framework.
The company also points to its experience in Ontario as an indicator of future opportunities. According to figures published by iGaming Ontario, total wagers reached $82.7 billion during the 2024–25 fiscal year, while gaming revenue climbed to $2.9 billion. Those figures represent year-over-year increases of 32% and 31%, respectively.
Segal noted that Alberta’s launch coincided with the closing stages of the FIFA World Cup, contributing to strong initial activity. He added that while early performance has been encouraging, maintaining growth beyond the initial surge of interest will be the key measure of long-term success.
