Maryland Sports Betting Contributes $14.1M to State in October

Maryland’s sports wagering market generated $14.1 million in state contributions during October 2025, according to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency. The figures reflect steady growth amid a busy sports season.

Bettors wagered a total of $736.6 million throughout the month, with $663.9 million returned as prizes. Sportsbook operators retained 9.9% of the handle, buoyed by the MLB postseason, full college and professional football schedules, and the start of hockey and basketball seasons.

Mobile Betting Dominates the Market

Mobile platforms accounted for the majority of wagers, totaling $723.3 million, compared to $13.3 million at retail sportsbooks. Mobile operators retained 9.8% of wagers, while retail operators held 12.1%. Maryland’s tiered revenue framework requires retail operators to contribute 15% of taxable proceeds to the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future Fund, which supports public education. Mobile operators contribute 15% to the Blueprint Fund and an additional 5% to the state’s General Fund.

In October, contributions to the Blueprint Fund reached $10.6 million, while mobile proceeds added $3.5 million to the General Fund. Year-to-date, through the first four months of Fiscal Year 2026, total sports wagering contributions have reached $43.9 million.

Market Expansion and Long-Term Growth

October also saw the opening of a retail sportsbook at Canton Gaming in Pikesville on 24 October. Partnered with Crab Services, the operator relocated from a prior Towson location, bringing Maryland’s total to 13 retail sportsbooks and 12 mobile platforms.

Since the program launched in December 2021, cumulative contributions have reached $210.5 million for the Blueprint Fund, $10.7 million to the General Fund, and $5 million in expired prizes allocated to the Problem Gambling Fund.

October’s $14.1 million represents a modest increase from September’s $13.5 million, reflecting continued growth in wagering activity and operator participation as Maryland’s regulated sports betting market matures.
