The Gaming Revenue of Macau amounted to approximately MOP58.34 billion (US$7.22 billion) during the period of January to July 2026. This marked a rise of 9.3% as compared to the total recorded for the same period last year, based on the data provided by the city’s Financial Services Bureau.
Gaming taxes remained the main source of the government’s current revenue during the period. The data showed that gaming tax accounted for approximately 86.0% of the MOP67.85 billion in current revenue recorded in the 7 months to July 31.
July Tax Collection Declines
While the YTD amount went up, there was a drop in gaming taxes during July relative to the previous month. The amount of gaming taxes that the government raised during July stood at MOP7.15 billion, down by 17.5%.
The July result followed changes in Macau’s casino gross gaming revenue during the same period. Casino GGR dropped by 18.1% on a monthly basis in June, reaching MOP18.52 billion. July GGR then rose 9.4% sequentially to MOP20.26 billion.
The tax figure and casino GGR figure for the same calendar period cannot be compared directly. This is because there is normally a delay between the time casino operators record GGR and the time the government records the related tax payment.
Tax Rate Under Concession System
Macau’s current 10-year gaming concession system took effect on Jan. 1, 2023. Under the system, the effective tax rate on casino GGR is 40%.
The tax revenue collected by the government reflects payments connected to casino gaming activity, but the figures reported for a particular period may not match the GGR recorded by operators during that exact period. The timing difference remains an important factor when reviewing monthly movements in gaming tax revenue.
The latest figures show both a strong year-to-date increase and a monthly decline in July. They also place the tax collection data alongside recent changes in Macau’s casino GGR, without creating a direct comparison between the 2 sets of figures.
Progress Toward Annual Target
It is expected that the government will raise almost MOP92.53 billion from gaming taxes in 2026. Out of the MOP58.34 billion raised during the first 7 months, this made up 63.1% of the full-year target.
The amount collected so far leaves the government with the remaining portion of its annual estimate to gather during the final 5 months of the year. Gaming tax revenue will continue to be tracked against the target as Macau moves through the rest of 2026.
Gaming Taxes Support Public Revenue
The data shows the continued importance of gaming taxes to Macau’s public finances. With gaming taxes making up approximately 86.0% of current revenue through July, changes in casino activity and the timing of tax payments can affect the government’s monthly figures.
For now, the first 7 months have produced higher gaming tax revenue than the prior-year period, even as July collection declined from June. The government’s reported total remains below its full-year expectation, with 63.1% of the annual target reached by July 31.
The Financial Services Bureau’s figures provide a month-by-month view of the revenue collected from gaming, while the annual total indicates how much of the government’s expected income has already been secured.
