LOTBA Trains Influencers Reported for Promoting Illegal Online Gambling

In the context of its preventive strategy regarding illegal online gambling, LOTBA held a series of training courses for influencers who were previously reported for promoting illegal gambling sites online. This initiative seeks to increase public knowledge of the threats of gambling and prevent problem gambling among teenagers.

Over the course of 2025, many cases have been recorded in Argentina in which influencers and social media personalities promoted betting sites that operated without authorization from LOTBA. Thus, the gambling authority initiated more than one hundred lawsuits against those who had advertised unauthorized websites.

Legal Action and Prevention

Some of the people mentioned have already faced criminal prosecution in court in Argentina. In accordance with a set of agreements with the Judiciary of the City of Buenos Aires, some offenders had to post on their social media pages an awareness-raising video about the threat of participating in illegal bets.

This initiative reflects the combination of punitive and preventative actions in order to both punish the guilty and use them as an example of prevention and awareness-raising tools.

Focused Training Within the Legal Framework

In particular, LOTBA training was aimed at those influencers who had participated in advertising unauthorized betting sites, thus violating Article 301 bis of the Argentine Penal Code on illegal gambling promotion.

The total number of such sessions amounted to two trainings that took place in the framework of reparation agreements promoted by FEJA, headed by prosecutor Juan Rozas.

According to the gambling regulator, the main task was to raise public awareness of the threats of online gambling and the importance of using only legal platforms as an effective way to prevent dangerous conduct in the young audience.

Main Topics of Training Sessions

In particular, participants were informed about the risk of promoting online gambling websites in terms of their participation in underage betting and the lack of guarantees.

Further, LOTBA employees noted their organization as a gambling regulatory body, stressing the importance of transparency and legal compliance when participating in betting in order to ensure user protection and responsible conduct.

More than forty influencers and social media stars participated in the training sessions. This is an important indicator since such people usually play a big role in disseminating content and attracting audiences to betting.

Influencers: A Growing Aspect of Regulated Markets

In general, this training reflects the increased responsibility that authorities and regulators place on influencers and digital marketers working within a legal gambling environment.

As the Internet continues to grow as a source of marketing and advertisements, this type of responsibility increases and should be emphasized by the regulator.

In conclusion, this initiative emphasizes a certain trend in the regulation of online gambling related to placing more responsibility on social media personalities rather than just operators.
