The Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires (LOTBA) entered into a cooperation agreement with the Council of the Magistracy with the purpose of preventing minors from getting involved in gambling and dealing with risks connected with online betting.
The aim of the agreement is to develop an educational and information guide, intended for minors, their parents, and educators who are involved in teaching them. The initiative is supposed to provide means for reducing risks in this sphere by giving practical tips on preventing young people from developing problem behaviors and engaging in gambling.
Coordination Between the Institutions to Solve the Problem
The agreement includes the framework of coordination, technical assistance, and collaboration in order to achieve the set goal, namely to elaborate a “Guideline and Informational Guide” which will help to increase public awareness concerning the prevention of gambling among children.
The signing of the agreement was conducted by LOTBA President Jesús Mariano Acevedo and Secretary General Eva Del Río and Council of the Magistracy President Karina Leguizamón, Justice and Education Director Alicia Caruso.
The signing of the cooperation agreement between the mentioned institutions demonstrates a growing concern among stakeholders in the field about the increase in gambling among minors and the problem of gambling behaviors.
LOTBA Measures Against Problematic Gambling
LOTBA has launched several initiatives aimed at encouraging young players to make responsible decisions and prevent problematic gambling behaviors. Thus, the 2025 campaign “Talking is Winning” raises awareness about the dangers associated with gambling, casino games, and betting.
This campaign shows how minors can get access to websites with illegal gambling and how easily they can become victims of such a dangerous practice because of the increasing availability of online gambling websites.
Moreover, LOTBA holds various workshops, training events, and awareness programs dedicated to educating public servants and representatives of other sectors of the society. LOTBA has been actively struggling against illegal and unsafe gambling platforms.
Focus on Education and Prevention
One of the measures taken by LOTBA as part of the signed agreement will be to distribute educational guides on online safe gambling and the prevention of illegal betting and accessing online gambling sites among primary and secondary school students.
The guide will contain valuable tips for detecting signs of problematic gambling and recommendations for parents who deal with gambling addiction problems of their children.
Importance of Coordination of Actions in the Field of Prevention
Both parties admitted that the signed agreement will help to coordinate actions and solve a complicated task that cannot be solved without institutional collaboration. In particular, LOTBA stressed that the agreement includes institutional support and development of conceptual and outreach materials to raise public awareness.
In Latin America, the problem of illegal gambling and its effects on society, especially minors, has recently become quite acute. For this reason, LOTBA takes measures aimed at protecting vulnerable population groups from harmful consequences.
