LOTBA and Buenos Aires Prosecutor’s Office Collaborate to Combat Illegal Gambling through Specialized Training

In an ongoing effort to unify the regulatory authority and combat illicit games in physical and virtual settings, the Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA) conducted a comprehensive training seminar with officials from the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The campaign was developed in close collaboration with the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling Offenses (FEJA) and addressed operational matters of licensed and illicit gaming operations.

Strategic Partnership for the Protection of Legal Gaming

The training was consistent with an increasing partnership between LOTBA and FEJA to build greater efficiency in identifying and prosecuting illegal gambling establishments. The session imparted pertinent information regarding the working of licensed gaming facilities, the requirements for legitimate providers, and the kinds of mechanisms commonly used to cheat during gambling opportunities.

Guests were presented with complex procedures of digital gaming operations, like dealing with data, compliance standards, and using digital resources for real-time monitoring by supervisors. Talk also included examination of regulatory procedures and their use in detecting and dismantling illicit gaming operations, whether conducted online or in establishments.

Involvement at High Levels by Government Agencies

The activity was witnessed by top LOTBA officials like President Jesús Acevedo, Director Ezequiel Domínguez, General Manager Martín García Santillán, Secretary General Dolores Pujol, and Sebastián Vivot, Modernization and IT Department Head. Also present was Carolina Galtieri, Unit Head for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism.

From the Prosecutor’s Office, significant contributors included Prosecutor Juan Rozas, Secretary Rodrigo Branca, Secretary Sofía Bouquet, and several other members of their investigative and legal team.

The collaborative work session was particularly focused on bridging the knowledge gap between technical regulatory competence and legal enforcement in a way that ensures prosecutors gain a solid grasp of the dynamics that define both legitimate and illegitimate gaming systems within the dominant market situation.

Concrete Outcomes of Collective Enforcement

During the training, LOTBA President Jesús Acevedo emphasized the concrete benefits as a product of the partnership with FEJA. “I would like to thank Prosecutor Juan Rozas and his entire team for the great work they’ve done. Having a specialized prosecutor’s office is very helpful in speeding up the legal complaints we file and in closing down illegal platforms“, said Acevedo.

He went on to share statistics illustrating the success of this inter-institutional collaboration: “Thanks to our joint efforts, we’ve already reported 89 influencers for promoting illegal gambling and successfully blocked over 2,300 illegal betting websites.”

These steps are all included within a wider legal and regulatory clampdown aimed not only to enforce current legislation but also to protect vulnerable gamblers and ensure a fair gaming environment. The close liaison between LOTBA and FEJA is an indication of how regulatory bodies and judicial authorities can work together to protect the public interest and dismantle organized networks of illegal gambling.

With Buenos Aires continuing to modernize its gaming regulation and enforcement infrastructure, other joint efforts and capacity-building activities should be explored. The alignment of LOTBA’s technical regulation and FEJA’s legal mandate offers a strong institutional framework well-suited to address emerging issues in the gambling landscape, specifically concerning the development and expansion of digital platforms.

This visionary strategy not only enhances public trust in legal gaming but also deepens the city’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the protection of its users in this modern digital age.
