The International Olympic Committee has stated that it would closely monitor betting behavior during the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games in 2026, with the aim of ensuring that there is no rigging of results, as part of a plan to protect sporting integrity. The IOC has partnered with Italian law enforcement in a move aimed at ensuring that sporting integrity is upheld.
The Winter Olympics, which is the biggest multi-discipline sporting event in the entire world, is set to open on February 6, 2026, with a competitive program that runs for a total of 16 days. The event is set to see over 3,000 athletes from more than 90 nations, including newcomers such as Brazil, take part.
Establishment of the Joint Integrity Unit
The heart of the IOC’s integrity plan is the setting up of a Joint Integrity Unit (JIU), which is set to operate from January 30 to February 24, 2026. This is inclusive of the run-up to the Opening Ceremony as well as the post-Games era, even when the Games themselves are set to finish on February 22.
The JIU is a product of collaboration between the IOC and the Milano-Cortina organizing committee with the aim of ensuring that there is a high degree of coordination and swift exchange of information. Among the key duties that JIU is going to undertake is the supervision of the monitoring of Olympic-related betting markets.
