As the lines between sports broadcasting and betting continue to blur, few companies have positioned themselves at the intersection quite like SportsGrid. From pioneering live sports betting coverage on Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) to integrating real-time data and influencer-driven content, SportsGrid has rapidly become a go-to network for modern sports fans and bettors alike.
In this exclusive interview, we sit down with Jeremy Stein, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SportsGrid, to discuss the vision behind the network’s rise, how they’re reshaping the fan experience, and what the future holds for the convergence of media, data, and gaming. From sportsbook-casino crossover strategies to international expansion and influencer partnerships, Stein shares candid insights into what’s driving SportsGrid’s momentum—and where it’s headed next.
SportsGrid’s Rapid Rise
SportsGrid has quickly emerged as a leader in sports betting media. What do you consider the key elements behind your success so far? How has your approach to integrating sports betting with live sports content set you apart, and what does this growth mean for your long-term vision?
SportsGrid benefits from being one of the first movers in the U.S sports betting media industry. When we began in Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST), our entire category was video-on-demand content or playback, and there was little sports betting coverage. We made the call to build a live video network that produces 18 hours of original content each day that speaks directly to the sports betting audience. Integrating betting commentary into content—not just as a graphical overlay, helped to redefine how fans engage with sports content, which has always been our long-term vision.
Data-Driven Content Strategy
Your content strategy seems to prioritize data and predictive analytics over the traditional handicapper model. How do you curate the right mix of insights and on-air talent to engage bettors without overwhelming them? What’s your philosophy when it comes to combining entertainment with actionable data?
SportsGrid is a free network—meaning we never needed to charge for picks. Our on-air talent possess not just a deep domain expertise, but also they bring a unique personality and an entertainment element to our audience. We have found that this balanced approach empowers our viewers versus overwhelming them with a sea of statistics. Our audience comes for the action but stays for the edge we provide through data integration and personality-driven storytelling.
Integrating Betting into Live Broadcasts
As betting becomes more deeply embedded in live sports coverage, how is SportsGrid approaching this integration? What are some of the innovations you’ve introduced to enhance—not distract from—the fan experience?
Betting is an entertainment product and we take the approach that it’s a way for fans to enhance their viewing experience. Our most popular show—In-Game Live is designed to complement live sports with real-time odds visualizations and play-by-play probability shifts. We also focus on contextual relevance to enhance the experience. This means our on-screen insights are in sync with key game events, so viewers are only being presented with actionable data, when it matters most.
Evolving Viewer Behavior
With fans increasingly watching games while simultaneously engaging on other devices or betting platforms, how is SportsGrid adapting its programming to meet these new behaviors? Are you seeing a demand for more real-time, interactive, or socially driven content?
Fans today are multi-screen consumers and SportsGrid plays an important role in influencing behaviors. While we optimize for the most important screen in the house—Connected Television—we also ensure our content complements second-screen engagement. Our audience benefits from real-time odds visualizations, betting trends and integrated social media content so they have everything in one place.
Each month, consumers spend more time on SportsGrid than on all sports wagering apps in the United States combined. Through data and other studies, we have proven that more time on SportsGrid correlates with more time spent on our partner products.
Convergence of Sportsbook and Casino Audiences
With your move into casino-focused programming, do you see significant overlap between your sportsbook and casino audiences? How are you tailoring your offerings to serve this blended user base, and what kind of content or monetization opportunities does it open up?
There is a significant overlap between sportsbook and casino audiences. 90% of our audience is interested in online, land-based, or social casino applications. Our goal is not only to super-serve our audience, but those of our partners. Coincidentally, producing more casino oriented content ticks both boxes. We believe that casinos are a future growth engine and will open up a myriad of monetization opportunities for our industry.
Influencer Partnerships and Audience Expansion
You’ve partnered with well-known personalities like Brian Christopher and Paige Spiranac. What role do these influencers play in your broader content strategy? How do you ensure that these collaborations not only boost reach but also deepen engagement with your core betting audience?
Influencers play a vital role in making gaming culture more accessible—something we feel is important with respect to casino games. Brian and Paige bring a high degree of authenticity, credibility, and charisma that appeals to both our core bettors and new audiences. They’re effectively our content superheroes—part of a broader team of influencers we’ve assembled to meet the demands of a diverse audience with a wide range of interests.
Alliances with Sportsbooks
You’ve worked closely with operators like FanDuel and BetMGM. How do these partnerships influence your editorial and commercial strategy? What have you learned about striking a balance between operator value and editorial independence?
Our operator partnerships drive tens of thousands of first time depositors—often more, and are also accretive to retention. SportsGrid, however, works on long term flat fee agreements and does not directly benefit via a CPA or revenue share from operator promotions much like our performance marketing counterparts. As a result, we have been able to retain editorial independence which ensures credibility with our audience.
International Expansion
You’ve already begun expanding into new markets such as Canada and Latin America. What differences or challenges have you encountered in tailoring your content for international audiences? Are there particular regions you view as high-priority growth markets?
Localization is an important part of our expansion efforts. We often look for high quality partners and form content alliances allowing us to efficiently deliver content fit for local preferences. We are particularly interested in Brazil due to strong fandom, market size, and favorable regulatory trends. And it’s not just football as shown by the NFL returning to São Paulo in Week 2 following the success of the debut South American game in 2024.
The Future of Betting x Media
Looking ahead, how do you see the convergence of sports broadcasting and betting evolving in the next few years? What is SportsGrid’s long-term vision for staying ahead of the curve, and are there any upcoming innovations you’re particularly excited to share?
We’re excited by the future of personalization. Connected Television—and even broadcast will have deep immersive elements that are specific to individual consumers. I think we will soon see true “watch and wager” integrations. SportsGrid’s long term vision is to continue to serve consumers with engaging content—and our focus on casino will continue to increase.
