The Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) has released the findings of its latest casino land study, identifying Indianapolis and the state’s northeast region as leading candidates for potential casino relocation. The study, conducted by Spectrum Gaming Group, was submitted to the State Budget Committee last week.
The report emphasizes both regions’ strong annual gaming revenue (AGR) potential. In Indianapolis, the area near the Indiana Statehouse was identified as a prime location due to its proximity to major attractions such as the Indiana Convention Center and professional sports venues. Meanwhile, the northeast Indiana site near Auburn, at the intersection of SR-8 and I-69, was highlighted for its convenient access to Fort Wayne, the Indiana Toll Road, and Michigan markets.
State Senator Andy Zay welcomed the study’s findings, stating:
“It’s great to see this study recognize the strong economic potential of northeast Indiana. Our region continues to show signs of growth and investment opportunities, and I look forward to continuing my work and reviewing this study to see what possibilities are available to our state and region.”
Zay’s office added:
“This study builds on Zay’s earlier efforts with Senate Bill 293, which would have allowed the relocation of Rising Sun Casino’s license to northeast Indiana. Zay believes the study is a good first step in understanding how a potential casino relocation could strengthen Indiana’s economy while supporting development in areas where there is much room to grow.”
The IGC’s findings are expected to inform future legislative discussions on casino license redistribution and regional economic development.
