Something shady was going on at Casinoscout.nl, and the Dutch gambling regulator wasn’t about to let it slide.
The site used to be a trusted platform. It helped players compare and find legal online casinos operating in the Netherlands. Simple, clear, above board. But everything changed earlier this year.
New Owners, New Problems
In January, ownership shifted to three companies: SBM Holding Group, Sun Block Media Labs 2.0, and JEF Holdings. That’s when Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), the Dutch gambling authority, noticed something was off.
Instead of promoting just licensed operators, the site started slipping in illegal online casinos. Among the names was Talkaspins.com, already on the KSA’s radar for breaking Dutch laws. But here it was again, now dressed up as just another option for Dutch users.
Mixing Legal and Illegal
The biggest issue? These unlicensed casinos were featured side-by-side with legal ones. To the average visitor, there was no way to tell the difference. And that’s exactly what KSA flagged, this setup could seriously mislead users.
So the regulator stepped in.
They sent warnings to the new owners. Clear instructions to stop pushing illegal content. No response. Nothing. The silence was enough to set off alarms.
Temporary Takedown, No Real Change
KSA then took it up a level. They contacted the Foundation for Internet Domain Registration in the Netherlands to request a takedown. The site was pulled offline temporarily, and an IP block was added to stop Dutch users from visiting.
But it didn’t last. The site popped back up. And the illegal ads? Still there. No corrections, no fixes, just business as usual.
So now comes the price.
Each company is facing a penalty payment order of up to €225,000, with €75,000 charged per week if the violations continue. If all three keep breaking the rules, that’s a possible €675,000 in fines.
While digging deeper, KSA also found links between Casinoscout.nl and another shady site: besteonlinecasinonederland.com. Guess who owns that one too? The same trio.
It was enough for KSA to call this a continued breach, not a mistake. And that changed everything.
A Clear Warning for the Industry
The regulator has now taken Casinoscout.nl offline permanently. They’ve made it clear that this isn’t just about one site. It’s about setting the tone for all affiliate marketers working in the Dutch iGaming space.
Mixing illegal operators with legal ones, especially in a market as tightly regulated as the Netherlands, just won’t fly. And KSA is making sure everyone hears that message.
More Than Just a One-Off
This case might look small, but it’s part of a much bigger push. The Dutch market is cracking down on affiliate abuse, and this might just be the first of many. If you’re not following the rules, whether you’re an operator or an affiliate, you’re on borrowed time.
