Building a safer future for sports betting
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has set its sights on the next decade of fair play.
To mark its 20th anniversary, IBIA has launched Mission 2030, a long-term initiative focused on protecting sports from manipulation and building trust in regulated betting markets. The plan stretches over five years and brings together operators, regulators, and sports bodies under a shared goal: to keep betting fair, transparent, and responsible.
IBIA described the strategy as a roadmap to strengthen how the industry detects and prevents suspicious activity. It reflects the growing need for integrity safeguards as global sports betting expands at record pace.
A three-pillar approach
Mission 2030 focuses on three main areas that shape the fight against corruption.
The first is monitoring and detection. IBIA plans to enhance its global alerts platform, which tracks betting patterns across thousands of events. The system helps spot unusual activity early, giving regulators and operators time to investigate before harm occurs.
The second pillar is collaboration. IBIA will work even more closely with sports organisations, law enforcement, and gambling regulators. By sharing information quickly and effectively, the association hopes to prevent suspicious betting from slipping through gaps between jurisdictions.
IBIA’s plan also comes as operators face growing compliance demands across multiple markets, with costs and oversight intensifying year after year, as seen in The cost of gambling compliance in 2025.
The third pillar is education and prevention. This involves training athletes, coaches, and betting staff to recognise warning signs and avoid unethical behaviour. IBIA also intends to support policies that promote integrity-focused regulation in both new and established markets.
Integrity challenges continue to grow
The timing of Mission 2030 is no coincidence, betting alerts are on the rise.
In its 2024 Integrity Report, IBIA recorded 219 suspicious betting alerts worldwide. During the first quarter of 2025, it identified 63 alerts, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous year.
The figures underline a clear challenge: as sports betting grows, so does the need for smarter, faster monitoring. IBIA’s platform already serves as one of the world’s largest integrity networks, with members covering more than 50% of the global regulated market. Mission 2030 is designed to strengthen that foundation.

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said the new roadmap represents a forward-looking approach to safeguarding the betting ecosystem.

Through Mission 2030, IBIA is signalling a broader shift across the sports betting industry: one where competition on the field doesn’t extend to integrity. Instead, the association wants to create a culture of transparency, where stakeholders work together rather than in isolation.
The initiative also shows the growing connection between responsible gambling, data protection, and market regulation, themes increasingly shaping the industry’s long-term sustainability.
