Tensions have risen at Horseshoe Indianapolis as more than 200 casino workers began a strike demanding formal recognition of Teamsters Local 135.
The walkout highlights growing frustration among employees who say management has stalled their union election process.
Workers take action after vote delay
The Horseshoe Indianapolis workers strike began on Friday after staff were informed that their scheduled union vote on October 17 had been postponed indefinitely. The delay, caused by the ongoing government shutdown, left workers without a clear path forward.
According to a statement from the Teamsters, the group proposed that a neutral third party conduct the vote instead. However, management refused, prompting workers to take to the picket lines.
Union calls for recognition
Local 135 president Dustin Roach said the union’s goal was straightforward. he explained:
“Horseshoe dealers and dual rates want and deserve the strong representation that Local 135 can provide them. We will not let the casino’s management stand in their way. Horseshoe can end this strike at this very moment by recognizing the union that these hardworking men and women have fought so hard to join.”
The Teamsters represent dealers and dual-rate employees, who split their time between dealing games and supervising tables. Workers say they want better communication with management, more predictable schedules, and fairer treatment.
Casino performance remains strong
Despite the unrest, Horseshoe Indianapolis has shown solid financial results. In August 2025, the casino generated $24.6 million in revenue, an 11 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission.
Statewide, Indiana’s casinos recorded $204.2 million in adjusted gross revenue for the month, up 2 percent from last year and 9 percent from July. The state’s top performers included Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana with $34.3 million and Horseshoe Hammond with $24.5 million.
As the strike continues, all eyes are on Caesars Entertainment’s next move. Will management engage with the Teamsters to resolve the dispute, or will tensions continue to rise inside one of Indiana’s busiest casinos?
