Hard Rock Bet has introduced a new range of slots-style games on its Florida sportsbook app, powered by historical NASCAR race data. Branded as “Games powered by Past Motor Races”, the products are authorized under the Seminole Tribe’s online sports betting compact with the State of Florida.
The games closely resemble traditional slot machines in look and feel, despite being framed as a form of sports wagering. The concept mirrors Historical Horse Racing (HHR) machines – terminals that use data from past races to determine outcomes while maintaining the appearance of standard slots.
A Hybrid Between Sports Betting and iGaming
According to Hard Rock Bet’s updated FAQ:
“Games powered by Past Motor Races is a form of sports betting available in Florida where a player wagers on the outcome of real past motor races as authorized by the 2021 Compact with the State of Florida. The outcome of those wagers are shown to the player using entertaining video depictions.”
The product line includes 21 titles available within the sportsbook lobby, each with a minimum $1 wager. Game titles such as Oink, Oink, Oink—featuring colorful animated pigs reminiscent of Light & Wonder’s Three Rich Piggies—sit alongside others like Buffalo Blitz and Sahara Riches Megaways Collect’Em.
Players select the finishing order of drivers in three past races, with payouts determined by the accuracy of their picks and the probability of those outcomes.
Regulatory Uncertainty Ahead
While Hard Rock Bet classifies the offering as sports betting, regulatory approval remains uncertain. The Florida Gaming Control Commission has yet to confirm whether the games comply with the state’s legal framework, and experts say the matter could ultimately be resolved in court.
The Seminole Tribe, operator of Hard Rock Bet, has extensive experience navigating legal challenges, having previously defended its exclusive rights to offer sports betting in Florida in a case that reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
The launch comes amid growing speculation that prediction markets and other betting platforms may seek to use existing regulatory pathways, such as CFTC-approved derivatives, to introduce more iGaming-style products, potentially opening a new frontier in U.S. online gambling.
