Google Opens Ads to Social Casino Games With New Certification Program

Google is expanding its advertising ecosystem to include social casino games, introducing a new certification process that will allow eligible publishers to promote these titles through Google Ads beginning in late August 2026.

The move marks a notable shift in Google’s gambling and gaming advertising framework. While the company has long required strict certification for gambling-related advertisers, social casino game developers will now have a dedicated approval pathway designed specifically for their category. The rollout begins on August 26, 2026, and will be introduced gradually, meaning not every advertiser will gain access at the same time.

Social casino games simulate traditional casino experiences—including slots, poker, blackjack, and roulette—but do not allow players to win money or prizes with real-world value. Instead, gameplay revolves around virtual currency or chips, although many titles monetize through optional in-app purchases. Under Google’s policy, sweepstakes casinos are explicitly excluded from this category because they may offer prizes with monetary value.

New in-account certification

One of the biggest changes is how advertisers apply for approval.

Until now, gambling-related certifications were primarily handled through the Google Ads Help Center. Google is now introducing an in-platform application process, allowing eligible advertisers to submit certification requests directly from their Google Ads account.

The company stressed that the rollout is incremental, so advertisers who do not immediately see the new option can continue using the existing Help Center application process. Existing certifications and applications already under review will not be affected.

Strict eligibility requirements remain

Although Google is opening the door to more advertisers, the policy remains heavily regulated.

To qualify for certification, operators must comply with local laws where applicable and meet several platform requirements. Social casino games must clearly state they are intended only for users above the legal gambling age, cannot target minors, and must explicitly disclose that they do not offer real-money gambling or real-world prizes. If the game includes in-app purchases, that information must also be disclosed on the landing page or within the advertisement. Ads are also prohibited from using branding associated with real-money gambling operators.

Google also requires advertisers to notify the company of any material changes to their certification information. Failure to recertify after significant changes could result in account suspension.

Separate accounts required

A notable restriction is that advertisers cannot combine real-money gambling promotions and social casino game advertising within the same Google Ads account.

Businesses operating both product categories will need separate advertising accounts, and advertisers targeting different social casino certification groups may also need multiple accounts depending on the jurisdictions involved.

Available in dozens of markets

Google permits social casino game advertising only in approved countries where certification requirements are met. The eligible list includes major advertising markets such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, India, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and the Czech Republic, among others.

Why it matters

The update is less about relaxing Google’s gambling policies than modernizing how regulated advertisers gain approval. By moving certification into Google Ads itself, the company is reducing administrative friction while maintaining strict eligibility checks for a category that continues to attract billions of downloads across mobile app stores.

For social casino developers, the streamlined application process should make it easier to launch campaigns without relying solely on external support channels. At the same time, Google’s continued emphasis on age restrictions, responsible messaging, and regional compliance signals that advertising in this category will remain closely monitored.
