Ghana Television Shifts National Lottery Draws to Prime Time

In an exciting development for millions of viewers, the National Lottery Authority (NLA) has moved its live lottery draws from United Television (UTV) to Ghana Television (GTV), making the broadcasts more accessible to the public.

This switch brings the draws to the national broadcaster, ensuring broader coverage across the country.

“Effective December 1, 2025, the NLA live Draws will be telecast on Ghana Television (GTV).” Details of the new schedule have also been released. The Authority added: “From Monday to Saturday, the evening Draw, currently broadcast at 7.15 pm, will be broadcast at 8.00 pm, immediately after GTV’s prime time news,” the NLA stated.

The Sunday draws will continue to air at 6:00 PM, while the schedule for other draws will remain unchanged, according to the NLA.

Modernizing the National Lottery

This transition reflects the Authority’s commitment to modernizing its operations and enhancing transparency in the lottery process. Alongside this change, the NLA is implementing reforms in 2025 aimed at strengthening oversight and reducing illegal activities in the lottery sector.

One significant measure involves requiring all agents and “lotto writers” under private operators to display unique identification stickers featuring a QR code. This initiative will help regulators easily identify legitimate operators and separate them from illegal ones.

Additionally, the NLA plans to deploy 5,000 new point-of-sale (POS) terminals in collaboration with Fidelity Bank. These modern terminals will replace outdated equipment, enhancing oversight, increasing sales, and reducing illicit lottery activity.

Through these initiatives, the NLA is ushering in a new era of accountability and transparency, instilling greater confidence among Ghanaians.
