The Gambling Commission has suspended the operating license of VGC Leeds Limited, operator of the Victoria Gate Casino in Leeds city center, with immediate effect. The suspension will remain in place while the regulator reviews the operator’s activities under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005.
Located next to the Victoria Shopping Center in Eastgate, the casino features 22 live betting tables and 175 slot and electronic roulette games. The Gambling Commission expressed concerns that the operator may have acted contrary to the Gambling Act and “may be unsuitable to carry on the licensed activities.”
The decision follows a recent Compliance Assessment, which indicated that VGC Leeds Limited had failed to maintain and implement effective anti-money laundering policies, procedures, and controls, as required under its license conditions. The regulator also noted serious concerns regarding the adequacy of decision-making processes and the licensee’s governance and risk management arrangements.
This marks the second license suspension announced by the Gambling Commission this week. Yesterday, the regulator also suspended the gaming software license of Spribe OÜ, citing alleged serious non-compliance related to hosting requirements. Spribe is believed to have conducted B2B activity beyond the scope of its original license, hosting online casino games without proper authorization.
Spribe described the issue as a “technical licensing gap” that was not identified during its 2020 application and is preparing to submit a license variation to include remote casino game host activities.
