September 15, 2025 – Flashscore, the world’s most popular live scores app, has unveiled its new Follow Player functionality, giving fans real-time updates on their favorite football stars.
The release comes after phenomenal demand from Flashscore’s 100 million-plus monthly users, with the company calling it its “flagship app enhancement of 2025.”
Real-Time Player Updates
Fans can now add up to 100 favorite players to receive updates in the same way they do with teams. Notifications include when a player is in the starting lineup, goals, substitutions, red cards, and post-match player ratings.
A forthcoming update will expand notifications to cover assists, yellow cards, missed penalties, and transfers. Flashscore also plans to introduce Follow Player to other sports later this year, including basketball and hockey.
Alongside this, Flashscore has expanded its statistics offering, giving fans access to player-focused data such as expected goals (xG), passing accuracy, and duels won.
Cristiano Ronaldo Tops Global Rankings
Flashscore’s database now includes nearly 590,000 players, and within the first month, 350,000 users have already selected at least one favourite. On average, fans follow six players each, creating around 2 million favourites in the first month.
Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the most-followed player worldwide, ahead of Lionel Messi. Rising star Lamine Yamal ranks third, with Kylian Mbappe in fourth. Neymar, Vinicius Jr, Robert Lewandowski, and Jude Bellingham also feature prominently on the global top 10 list.
In the UK, the top four remain unchanged, but Liverpool’s Mo Salah ranks fifth, followed by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in sixth. New Liverpool signing Alexander Isak is seventh, ahead of Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz.
Launch Aligned with Legends Charity Game
Flashscore is unveiling the Follow Player feature ahead of tonight’s Legends Charity Game between Portugal Legends and World Legends in Lisbon. As the official strategic partner of the match, Flashscore will deliver real-time updates powered by Opta data from Stats Perform.
The charity event, held at Sporting’s Estádio José Alvalade, has been organized by Sport Global with a fundraising goal of €1 million. It also serves as the curtain-raiser for the SBC Summit iGaming conference and features stars such as Luis Figo, Kaka, and Carles Puyol.
