The Brazilian gaming sector has lost a brilliant and unexpected punch with Felipe Maximino, Sorte Online’s chief executive officer, who died after suffering a stroke. Maximino, who was 38 years old, died just a few months after assuming the company’s top leadership role in March 2025. Admired for his visionary style and deeply human leadership approach, Maximino’s legacy is one of innovation, dedication, and inspiration.
The Sorte Online management posted the news on Tuesday, August 5, in profound sorrow. “Felipe was not just a visionary chief executive officer; he was a tireless advocate of innovation, passionate about taking ideas into real projects and inspiring everyone around him. We present our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and everyone fortunate enough to know him“, the company said.
Career at Sorte Online and Industry Contributions Felipe Maximino joined Sorte Online nearly four years ago as VP of Product, Technology, and Operations and, later, CEO. In his role as VP, he played a key role in revamping the technology platform with an emphasis on a more intuitive and streamlined user experience.
During his period of office, Maximino not only introduced strategic innovation but also promoted a culture of collaboration and adaptability. His leadership was marked by what his peers describe as “building bridges, driving change, and showing us an example of human and inspiring leadership.”
When he ascended to the helm at the beginning of this year, succeeding Márcio Malta, who had headed Sorte Online for five years, Maximino signaled that he wanted to drive more growth and push customer experiences to greater heights. “We intend to continue growing and place even greater focus on the customer experience, creating innovative solutions that make the consumer experience smoother and offer more access to quality services“, he said then.
Academic Training and Professional Experience
Felipe Maximino graduated in Computer Science from the University of São Paulo (USP), where he worked on web system accessibility and ubiquitous computing. He also attended a postgraduate course in Business Administration at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).
Before joining Sorte Online, Maximino had several senior leadership positions on his resume, from Director of Product and Technology, CTO, to Head of Product. He had a career working with leading global firms in digital transformation, like Indian technology behemoth TCS and French multinational Atos, where he gained enormous experience in business development.
His cross-disciplinary expertise, uniting technical expertise and business sense, positioned him as an exceptional leader who could bridge technology innovation and customer-oriented operations.
Remembering His Legacy
Colleagues remember Felipe as a “purpose-inspiring” leader who charged his teams to dream big while staying grounded in empathy and respect. His loss created a void not only within Sorte Online but within the broader gaming and digital services sector in Brazil.
In the farewell letter, the Sorte Online team promised to keep him in mind: “We will work with the same passion and direction that Felipe taught us to build each day.”
