FDJ Reveals New Executive Committee and Business Segments Revamp

French state-owned gaming monopoly La Française des Jeux (FDJ) has just released a historic restructuring of its business segments and executive committee. The strategic overhaul comes as FDJ puts behind it its very public-private takeover by Kindred Group as it emerges as an uncontested pan-European gaming player.

The reforms will focus on evolving the group’s online, diversified, and international presence in nearly 15 jurisdictions.

At the centre of FDJ’s transformation is its new leadership committee. Among the most important appointments is Nils Andén, the former Kindred CEO, who has been appointed Chief Online Betting and Gaming Officer. This is a testament to FDJ’s commitment to developing its digital strength and leveraging Kindred’s digital gaming experience.

Current CEO Stéphane Pallez, Deputy CEO Charles Lantieri, and CFO Pascal Chaffard will remain to provide stability and continuity. They will be the drivers that guide the business through turbulence and opportunity created by integration into Kindred Group.

The other key appointments are Patrick Buffard as Chief French Lottery and Retail Sports Betting Officer, Giovanna D’Esposito as Chief International Lottery Officer, and Raphaël Botbol as Chief Payment and Services Officer. Valérie Berche, Dominique Cavalié, Xavier Etienne, Cécile Lagé, Nathalie Le Garlantezec, Elisabeth Monégier du Sorbier, and Vincent Perrotin join the team in strategic positions.

Sébastien Rozanes is appointed Chief Digital, Data, and AI Officer, emphasising FDJ’s commitment to harnessing technology and data analysis for growth. Celia Verot is appointed Chief Regulatory Officer, managing compliance with changing regulatory environments in Europe. Strategy Director Jonathan Gindtn and Public Affairs Director Yann Paternester will also join executive committee meetings, bringing strategic and policy insight.

Restructured Business Units

FDJ’s activity is currently structured into four primary business segments, each of which is designed to take advantage of unique market opportunities:

  • French Lottery and Retail Sports Betting: This business segment will operate lottery games and retail sports betting on conventional and digital channels.By bundling these offerings, FDJ will drive customer experience and build incremental market share in France.
  • Online Gaming and Betting: Responsible for horse racing, sports betting, poker, and online casino gaming in competitive markets. The company will expand FDJ’s digital presence using Kindred’s experience and offer a full suite of online gaming products.
  • International Lottery: Includes Premier Lotteries Ireland, which runs the Irish lottery. This business places FDJ in a position to grow its international lottery business with potential additional geographic expansion.
  • Payment and Services: Offers various payment products under the Nirio brand name, enabling bill payments and other services via an app. This is among FDJ’s aspirations to be a diversified financial services group.

Digital Transformation and Expansion

The new organisation reflects the transformation of FDJ in digitalisation, diversification, and globalisation. Cross-functional teams will be supporting these departments with a focus on innovation, technology, digital acceleration, data, AI, and group functions. This organisation enables FDJ to respond speedily to changing market conditions and technologies.

With its emphasis on digitalisation, FDJ is aiming to enhance customer interaction, streamline business processes, and gain access to new markets. Kindred Group’s takeover adds a considerable amount of expertise in online gaming that will prove invaluable in propelling the digital strategy.

Challenges Ahead

Amid such positive trends, though, FDJ also grapples with new French taxation law. The company is looking at a €45 million 2025 EBITDA loss fuelled by increased taxation demands. Up to July 2026, this will increase an additional €90 million. This is part of a broader evolution across European gaming, where authorities are becoming stricter.

To counteract these impacts, FDJ will need to focus on cost control and top-line expansion. Its diversified business model and strong leadership team allow it to ride out these disruptions while continuing to invest in digital expansion and innovation.

Overall, what can be said?

FDJ’s transformation into a strategic organisation is an important milestone toward its vision of becoming the leader of European gaming. With good leadership and foresight for digital growth and global expansion, FDJ has the opportunity to steer opportunities and challenges in the changing gaming environment.

In the coming years, success will depend on whether it can successfully integrate Kindred assets and deal with changing regulatory paradigms. Emphasising innovation, customer relationships, and strategic growth, FDJ wishes to establish itself as a top European gaming champion.
