SportyBet Nigeria had taken some of its customers to court after blocking their accounts in 2024, accusing them of manipulating its system to secure large payouts.
The affected users, who claimed the company owed them over N900 million in winnings, denied any wrongdoing and turned to social media to press their case and call for public support. The matter was not resolved, with SportyBet deciding to seek legal relief.
It asked the court to silence the customers with an ex parte order and went further to accuse them of financial misconduct, demanding N50 million in damages and restrictions on their online commentary.

SportyBet took its customers to court, accusing them of financial misconduct and asking judges to stop them from making further public statements or posting about the dispute online. The company also demanded N50 million in damages.
The court rejected the claims, ruling that SportyBet had not proved its case. The judge stated: “the claimant is not entitled to any of the reliefs… This suit is dismissed.”
Although the operator alleged that its system had been manipulated, no evidence was presented to support the charge. Records from the proceedings also showed that SportyBet did not pursue any claims of cyber‑attack, instead building its case on defamation without proof.
