Colorado’s sports betting market keeps climbing. The Division of Gaming just dropped September’s numbers, and the state racked up a handle of $608.7 million. That’s 8% higher than last year and almost 46% more than August 2025. Online betting did most of the heavy lifting, bringing in $45.7 million of the $46 million total gaming revenue. Retail sportsbooks chipped in about $285,000.
Football was the clear favorite—people bet $193.4 million on it, nearly all of that online. Parlays and combo bets came next at $166 million, with baseball holding steady at $73.7 million. Again, almost all that action happened online.
Tax revenue for September hit $3.2 million, which is actually down, about 13% less than August and 20% below where it was last year.
Year-to-date, Colorado bettors have put down $1.4 billion, up nearly 10% from 2024. That’s brought in $9.6 million in taxes so far this fiscal year, also up about 10%.
Christopher Schroder, Director of Gaming, said:
“Colorado continues to demonstrate a strong and responsible sports betting market. These figures reflect not only the public’s interest but also our ongoing commitment to using this revenue to benefit the state’s critical water initiatives. As we see these results, we also remind everyone to play responsibly.”
Ever since Colorado legalized sports betting, growth hasn’t really slowed. Last fiscal year, players bet $6.3 billion, beating the previous year by $287 million. That’s more than double what the state saw in its first full year of legal betting back in 2020-21.
September’s numbers show what’s been true for a while: sports betting—especially online—just keeps pulling in more fans. And while tax revenue bounces around from month to month, it’s still helping fund important state programs.
