Edgardo Fuenzalida is rumored to have been ousted from Polla Chilena de Beneficencia’s board after failing to appear at three consecutive meetings, reports Chilean outlet The Clinic. As of this writing, an official statement confirming the departure has not been found from the state lottery administrator, which is owned by the state.
The report shows that Fuenzalida did not attend the June 18, July 21, and August 20, 2026 ordinary board meetings. The three consecutive absences reportedly led to provisions in Polla Chilena’s corporate statutes that led to the automatic termination of his position.
Fuenzalida Reportedly Leaves Polla Chilena After Less Than Four Months
The case was submitted to the Financial Market Commission (CMF) of Chile via a disclosure, which is a requirement. The Clinic document states that Polla Chilena’s board reported to the regulator regarding the resignation of Fuenzalida, following a section of the company’s statutes.
On April 28, 2026, Fuenzalida had been appointed to the board of Polla Chilena. His term was thus reduced to less than four months when he was reportedly fired. So far, there is no detailed public explanation from the company about the reasons for his departure.
The reported decision seems to be related only to the pattern of absences and not to a larger-scale management or strategy shift in the company. According to the rules mentioned in the report, if a director is absent for three consecutive times without any justifiable reason, he/she will automatically get fired.
Fuenzalida’s Professional Background
Fuenzalida is a civil engineer with experience in various management and executive roles at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
He has been general manager of the foundation Las Rosas, dedicated to elderly care, since 2013. Before taking on the job of general manager, he served as director of Management at the foundation from 2012-13.
He also has previous experience as an associate consultant at Génesis Consulting & Capital between 2010 and 2012. Previously, Fuenzalida worked at Canal 13, serving as the director of Management from 2003 to 2010 and director of Engineering and Operations from 2001 to 2002.
Polla Chilena Against Unregulated Online Betting
The report of the departure follows Polla Chilena’s ongoing involvement in Chile’s struggle with foreign online casinos that are not part of the country’s regulations.
The state-run company has taken complaints about other agencies and production companies in recent months to the Council for Advertising Self-Regulation and Ethics (Conar) for running advertising for unregulated online betting operators. These are part of a bigger initiative to oppose the promotion of operators that Polla Chilena believes are not operating legally.
