Century Entertainment Charts Turnaround Course After Years of Losses

Hong Kong-listed gaming investor Century Entertainment reported a significant turn of events for the first half of its 2026 fiscal year, having reversed course after operating for several years without revenue. The company recorded topline income of HK$5.76 million (US$739,855) and turned a net loss of HK$11.4 million (US$1.5 million) in the prior year into a net profit of HK$26.4 million (US$3.4 million).

New Business Lines Drive Revenue Generation

The turnaround stems from the launch of two distinct business initiatives following the collapse of the company’s Cambodia gaming table operation. Most significantly, Century Entertainment established an online gaming platform business operating through a partnership with Philippines-based World Platinum Technologies Inc. This venture generated HK$5.1 million (US$655,000) in revenue during the reporting period and operates at an impressive 80.7 percent gross margin.

The partnership focuses on researching, developing, marketing, and distributing WPT’s gaming system platforms and content throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This high-margin business model has proven immediately profitable at the gross level, contributing roughly HK$4.1 million (US$526,630) to the group’s overall gross profit during the half-year.

One-Off Gains Bolster Reported Profits

Besides operational revenue, the company’s profitability benefited substantially from financial engineering and debt resolution. A settlement agreement with former major shareholder Ng Man Sun wiped out outstanding payables, loan obligations, and convertible bond liabilities, giving rise to a one-off gain of about HK$3 million (US$385,340).

More significantly, the company reversed a previously recognized HK$30.2 million (US$3.9 million) impairment loss related to the settlement, which has materially increased reported profitability. Management identifies that this reversal forms a substantial part of the reported profit and is a non-recurring item not likely to occur again.

Vietnam Expansion Pursuits

Demonstrating its commitment to rebuilding core gaming operations, Century Entertainment recently signed a non-binding letter of intent with a Vietnamese casino operator to explore table game expansion opportunities. This represents the company’s strategic effort to revitalize core gaming activities following the termination of its Cambodia operations.

Structural Challenges Persist

Despite headline improvements, Century Entertainment faces ongoing financial headwinds. The company maintains positions of net current liabilities and net liabilities on its balance sheet. Management emphasized that its going concern status depends on continued financial support from major shareholders and the successful scaling of new business initiatives.

The board is positive that the two newly launched business lines will create meaningful recurring revenues, setting up a more durable financial foundation. However, the company has openly admitted that most of the current profitability is due to the non-recurring items instead of sustainable operational performance.

The Path to Sustainable Growth

While the first-half results were an encouraging turnaround in view of extended losses, Century Entertainment still relies on strong shareholder support and successful development of its newly developed business lines for long-term financial stability. And though the early profitability of its online gaming platform is encouraging, investors will most likely scrutinize whether such momentum can really translate into truly sustainable financial recovery independent of one-off accounting gains and continuing equity infusions.
