Quick Info

Nolimit City Background

When Nolimit City launched its first slot, Creepy Carnival, the writing was already on the wall. It said that this was a studio that wouldn’t mind challenging the conventions of casino gaming and pushing the boundaries of what’s allowed to be shown in a game.

The first few years were a little rocky, though. Established in early 2014 in Stockholm, Sweden, the first major breakthrough did not come until late 2017, when Nolimit slot games joined the EveryMatrix suite of products. The years that followed saw it expand into new markets and strike partnerships with Soft2Bet, SoftGamings, BetConstruct, and others.

Then came 2021 and Mental, a game that cemented Nolimit City’s status as the cool kid on the online gambling block. The game was so transformative that Evolution swooped in the year later and acquired the studio for north of $300 million.

Even with the weight of expectation on their shoulders, they delivered. Tombstone R.I.P. and Punk Toilet proved equally divisive (in a good way), and the provider earned something of a cult status. To illustrate the point, the background music from Nolimit slots is big on Spotify with 4,000 listeners regularly tuning in.

The software provider launched many industry trends, as well. The platform where players can register, track big wins, comment, and buy merch is an idea that has been taken up by BGaming and Evolution (via PlayIn), but was actually pioneered by Nolimit City.

In late 2024, the studio branched out into the Over the Limit and the Labs sub-brands: one making legacy Nolimit games, and the other tasked with trying out new stuff.

5 Best Nolimit City Online Slots

With so many different, but equally unsettling games, everyone’s got their top 5 slots by Nolimit City. Our pick of the bunch includes an eclectic mix of classics and novelty.

Mental

No discussion is possible without Mental, a single most influential slot Nolimit City has ever made. You’re thrust into sepia-toned realities of mental asylums, with symbols like disturbed patients, insane volatility, and RTP of 96.08%.

The Mental Scatter is the star of this creepy show, responsible for activating bonus rounds, at the end of which is a max payout of 66.666x. Its sequel, Mental 2, locks you into a female-only asylum with a max win of 99.999x and a new xMental feature.

Tombstone R.I.P

Taking justice into your own hands never felt so wrong as in Tombstone R.I.P, a slot whose welcome screen asks you whether you want to die in Tombstone with boots on or off, and whether it’d be best for you if you just played fruit slots.

If you answer correctly (sic), you’ll be whisked into a game with xNudge and xSplit Wilds and two types of free spin rounds (Hang ’em and Boothill). Max bounty? 300,000x your bet.

San Quentin 2: Death Row

This one serves you a death penalty in a maximum security prison with insane volatility, RTP of 96.13%, and one too many soap jokes. Jumping Wilds combine with Enhancer Cells and simply go nuts during Green Mile spins, where you can risk five spins with Jumping Wilds for a chance of hitting the max win of 200,000x.

The trademark Nolimit xSplit, xWays, and xBet features are also behind bars.

Skate or Die

How much are you willing to bleed to make it into the pro leagues? Literally.

Skate or Die is an extreme volatility slot with a max win of 30,000x, but to get there, you’ll break multiple bones multiple times each playing as Chad, aka Plantface. The Boneyard spins are your friend, though, featuring two guaranteed xZone Wild symbols on every spin and a chance to land the xNudge Wild Supreme.

Crazy Ex Girlfriend

With an RTP of 96.09% and volatility pushed to extremes, Crazy Ex Girlfriend puts you in the shoes of a stalker victim whose titular girlfriend doesn’t take no for an answer. xSplit scissors and Voodoo Doll bonus boosters are not beneath her, either.

Where the game shines is in the innovative Plot Twist symbol, which upgrades all sticky symbols to random higher-paying ones. Also, the max win of 9,999x can be achieved either through bonus rounds or via the xGOD feature in the base game.

Themes & Features

The bold choice of themes is what sets Nolimit City apart from other software providers. Going through the provider’s portfolio, you’ll visit mental institutions, get trapped in Russian gulags, partake in rap showdowns, delve into the occult, and hell of a lot more.

Most of their games are feature-rich, as well. Nolimit is credited for launching the innovative xSeries game mechanics that add a surprising twist to the established formula.

xSeries

Features like xWays, xNudge, xSplit, and xPays are Nolimit’s take on industry standards like expanding or cascading reels, nudge, or splitting Wilds. For example, in the studio’s version of cascading reels (xPays), it is not the winning symbols that get removed. Quite the opposite; the winning symbols remain on reels and drop to make way for the new symbols.

What makes the xSeries so captivating is the interactivity between its dozen or so features. Each one can change how the other behaves, combining for a truly unique feel every time you boot up the game.

Except for xGOD. That one pays handsomely and pays entirely on its own.

Insane Volatility

The volatility in Nolimit slots is its own beast. The studio is famous for pioneering its own volatility level dubbed “insane,” and many of its games fall into the high-risk category. Gameplay is highly unpredictable, with long dry spells punctuated by transformative wins.

Other Games

Slots are the meat on the Nolimit bone, but recently the studio tried to expand the roster by launching its first scratch card game titled Outsourced: Slash Game. Coming from the Labs branch, the game took the now-pulled Slash feature from Outsourced and made it into a standalone scratchcard.

It’s an interesting, if a little bloody, experiment and a small sample of what we can expect from Labs in the future.

Bottom Line on Nolimit City

Slots by Nolimit City are an experience like no other. Bold to the point of invasive, visually stunning to the point of cinematic, the industry has indeed found its prodigal son that keeps on serving one off-the-wall game after another.

Known for its insane volatility and edgy, often controversial themes, the studio is anything but conventional. Its rise has been meteoric, its esthetics uniquely recognizable. even its features like xWays or xNudge add a gameplay twist you won’t find anywhere else.

Try them in demo mode first, though, to get a feel for the extremely high volatility levels.
