Caixa to Allocate BRL 40 Million Per Year to the Brazilian Olympic Committee

Caixa Econômica Federal pledged to donate a yearly contribution of BRL 40 million to COB in light of the implementation of the new Brazilian Olympic Sponsorship Program (POP).

In addition to the investment made by Grupo Tigre, which has not been publicly stated yet, Caixa is one of the initial supporters of the new program. As per reports from Valor Econômico, the POP model enables the participating companies to transfer up to 20% of the initial donation that is supposed to go to the COB directly to sports confederations involved in the program.

The arrangement appears to create considerable changes in how the sponsorship resources can be invested in Brazilian Olympic sports, providing more financial opportunities for the federations as well as more exposure options for the sponsors.

Highlights by COB Reveal New Funding Arrangements for Sports Federations

The budget for the COB for 2026 is expected to reach BRL 679 million. Roughly 70% of this sum, or BRL 475 million, comes from lottery funding sources, whereas almost 17%, or BRL 115 million, comes from tax revenues linked to betting.

Marco Antônio La Porta stated that the introduction of the new sponsorship scheme opens more commercial opportunities for both the COB and its affiliated sports organizations.

As never before in history, the COB transfers private resources to the confederations. The advantage here is that activation through the COB will also be possible at all games organized by 26 eligible confederations“, La Porta said in his interview with Valor Econômico.

This approach indicates further integration between the Brazilian gaming funding and sports funding models, especially in light of the ongoing expansion of the country’s gambling and lottery industries.

Caixa Lotteries Generate Billions in Revenue Annually

During Q1 of 2026, the income of Caixa Lotteries stood at BRL 5.97 billion, as seen from the company’s quarterly report dated May 15.

This income shows an 8.4% rise in relation to the Q1 of 2025. However, when compared to the last quarter of 2025, the revenue decreased by 30.7%.

As reported, Mega-Sena and Lotofácil together generated 74.8% of the total income from lotteries. MegaSena generated 39.8 percent of the total lottery revenue with a rise of 30.3% year-on-year.

In 2024 and 2025, more than BRL 12 billion each year was directed to public purposes by the company from its lottery revenues, as reported by Caixa.

The Economic Impact of the Regulated Online Betting Sector in Brazil

The regulated online betting market in Brazil has proved itself to be economically significant during the course of 2025.

Thus, the Gross Gaming Revenue of the sector reached around BRL 37 billion, with the share of taxes, which reached roughly BRL 4.5 billion, going to the specified destinations under Brazilian legislation.

Then, Regis Dudena said: “The year 2025 has shown how active the presence of the state in the market has become. Now, there are data collection opportunities as well as tracking tools to control the compliance with all established rules.”

The combined impact of the lottery and betting sectors is likely to continue making the Brazilian financing model for sports, social programs, and other public initiatives stronger.
