Caixa Loterias Studies a Special “Mega-Sena 30 Years” Edition with a R$ 150 Million Prize

The Brazilian Federation of Lottery Companies (Febralot) conducted a virtual meeting for lottery entrepreneurs across the country to discuss the ongoing negotiations with Caixa Econômica Federal regarding possible changes to the lottery product portfolio. During the meeting, entitled “Chat with the Lottery Network on TV Febralot”, Febralot president Ricardo Amado presented updates that are expected to greatly impact the offerings of Brazilian lottery shops.

Among the most prominent points was the announcement that Caixa Loterias, in partnership with the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting of the Ministry of Finance (SPA–MF), is concluding negotiations to introduce a special commemorative version of Mega-Sena to mark the lottery’s 30th anniversary. This special draw will replace the traditional Easter Dupla Sena lottery this year and is expected to offer a top prize of R$150 million.

According to Amado, the move is in response to calls from lottery operators for more competitive and appealing products. The Easter Dupla Sena lottery, for instance, traditionally offers prizes that do not exceed R$35 million, which is deemed inadequate to spark significant public interest.

Structural Changes Planned for Dupla Sena

Amado explained that the budget originally set for Dupla Sena will not go to waste. Instead, it will be held in reserve for the 2027 lottery while Caixa considers making structural changes to the game format.

One of the most important suggestions being considered is the reduction of the number of prize levels. At present, Dupla Sena offers prizes in eight separate levels, which breaks down the overall prize money. The plan is to consolidate the prizes into fewer levels, which may allow the 2027 Easter Dupla Sena lottery to offer a top prize of an estimated R$100 million.

New Products For Lottery Outlets

Caixa Loterias is also negotiating new products that will be marketed in lottery shops. These new products include the sale of sticker albums of the FIFA World Cup and the “Special World Cup Loteca” version.

The agreement for the sale of FIFA World Cup stickers in lottery shops is in the final stage of approval, especially regarding the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA). In the last World Cup, this market sold 900 million units, proving its commercial viability.

At the same time, Caixa Loterias, with SPA approval, intends to launch a “Special World Cup Loteca” with more attractive prize compositions. The idea is to increase the combinations of bets. Currently, the maximum bet allows six doubles for R$458. The new format will offer a ten-triple option for R$118,098, making it possible to form higher-value betting pools during the World Cup period.

The expectation around “Bet Caixa”

Among the most expected projects is the development of “Bet Caixa”, which will enable lottery shops to enter the online sports betting market. This market currently handles ten times more money than all Caixa lottery products combined.

Febralot has already started preliminary discussions with Caixa about the compensation scheme for this new service. As the project moves forward, Caixa is expected to engage sector unions to establish operational terms.

The development of sports betting in Brazil has been quite swift, and the lottery companies are working to ensure that they are not lagging behind in this growing sector. Febralot pointed out that it is important for the lottery companies to diversify their product offerings to ensure the sustainability of their businesses in the country.

The online nature of the meeting allowed representatives from across the country to attend, and it further reinforced the collaboration that Febralot says exists in “one of the largest public service networks in Brazil.”
