A new survey conducted by Pay4Fun, Brazil’s first Central Bank-approved payment institution dedicated to the betting and entertainment sector, has discovered that sports betting is becoming increasingly a part of the daily routine for many Brazilians. According to data from March and April 2025, the activity registers a massive surge in the early evening hours, especially at 6 PM.
Betting Becomes an After-Hours Habit
Unbundling thousands of anonymized and aggregated betting transactions on top of Brazil’s legalized betting websites, the report outlines a unique behavioral trend: Brazilians are wagering after work. From 5 PM to 9 PM, there is a gradual build-up of monetary transactions, with the absolute peak being at 6 PM.
This is a concurrent trend with the decline of the traditional workday and the beginning of elite sporting events, both national and international. It suggests that online sports wagering is now a component of the evening entertainment routine, hardly distinguishable from using social media or watching Netflix.
Comparable to Social Media and Streaming Trends
Reinforcing this tendency, the study cites broader digital conduct in Brazil. Data in the report “Horários Nobres das Redes Sociais” (“Prime Time for Social Networks“) — based on 170 million posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram — indicates that peak user engagement also occurs during the early evening.
In addition, Google data confirms that Brazilians are mostly streaming content between 7 PM and 10 PM. The intersection of the three entertainment types (social media, streaming, and betting) suggests a shared digital prime time in Brazil’s life.
Volume Growth Reaches Over 1,200% at Peak Times
The magnitude of the betting frenzy is staggering. In March, transaction volume at 7 PM increased by 908.7% from the quietest time of day (7 AM). In April, the high shifted to 6 PM, increasing by a staggering 1,235% above the lowest.
Leonardo Baptista, co-founder and CEO of Pay4Fun, explains the significance: “These figures enable us to understand how Brazilians interact with online entertainment. Gambling has become a digital routine with a well-defined window — especially in the early evening.”
This set schedule offers opportunities for gambling platforms, which tend to trigger time-sensitive bonuses and offers during these times to take advantage of the heightened traffic and activity.
Afternoon Build-Up and Early Morning Lulls
The study also shows that the number of bets begins to pick up around noon, rising more and more as the afternoon wears on. The lowest levels of activity occur during the early morning hours, from 1 AM through 9 AM, which illustrates natural diurnal rhythms and reduced sports coverage at that time.
This daily cycle of betting activity gives valuable insight into the growing normalization and digital integration of sports betting within Brazilian culture. It also offers operators a framework for optimizing their marketing, promotions, and platform performance around key engagement windows.
As online betting cements its role alongside traditional forms of digital entertainment, these findings mark a pivotal moment in the transformation of leisure and consumer behavior in Brazil.
