Brazilian Clubs Start the 2026 Season with Fewer Betting Sponsors

The beginning of the 2026 season has introduced a fresh scenario for the Brazilian football scene with respect to sportsbetting sponsorships. Unlike the 2025 season, where all the teams in the Série A had a sportsbetting brand associated with them as their major sponsor, some teams are playing the 2026 season without a major sponsor from the sportsbetting industry.

These clubs include Coritiba, Grêmio, Internacional, Santos, and Vasco, among others. Bahia also has a high possibility of being part of this group, although it has not yet been confirmed. This development has reignited debates over whether there will soon be a burst of what is termed the ‘betting bubble’. Yet the facts available do not provide evidence of a market crash.

Is the “Betting Bubble” Bursting?

Despite the fact that there are fewer visible sponsorships, there is nothing to suggest broad-scale financial failure. In fact, the sports betting industry in Brazil seems to be on the cusp of a phase of consolidation rather than contraction.

At the moment, there are 82 companies that are allowed to function within the sports betting market in Brazil, which translates to 183 brands. There are also three more companies, making up a total of nine brands, that are still carrying on as a result of court rulings. There is a realization that, within the sector, the market cannot support that many companies.

Therefore, the expectation here is that only the best-structured groups have a chance to be active. This has had a direct impact on sponsorship negotiations and the way that bookmakers have been very cautious. Contracts that were previously finalized are now being put under a lot of scrutiny.

Reorganization, Not Retraction

Industry leaders and analysts have almost entirely discounted the possibility of a structural retreat. It is believed that instead of a withdrawal in general, a transformation is being experienced in the industry.

This is confirmed by the fact that several big clubs are still succeeding in attracting agreements of great worth. Flamengo, Corinthians, Palmeiras, and São Paulo have managed to keep or even increase their agreements to R$ 100 million per year or more.

In some cases, the change is related to strategies employed within the brands and is not a result of financial issues. Cruzeiro, to cite an example, has introduced a replacement betting brand within the same economic group. Contract terminations based on financial issues, like the withdrawal of Alfa.bet from Grêmio and Internacional, are exceptions in such situations.

The Impact of the 2026 World Cup

Another crucial factor affecting sponsorship dynamics is the presence of the FIFA World Cup in the year 2026. Sports betting companies have scaled down their expenditure on advertising in favor of sponsorship deals with the broadcasting companies that have the rights to broadcast the events, such as Globo, CazéTV, SBT, and N Sports.

This new focus has limited the budget available for club sponsorship deals. This is one of the factors that led to the lower number of agreements that were evident early in the season.

What the Current Landscape Shows

To a large extent, the prevailing market suggests fewer deals, more targeted approaches, and more focused expenditure. Far from indicating a meltdown, this is a sign of a market consolidation trend among Brazilian gambling operators.

It is adjusting the agenda and prioritizing efficiency. And for Brazilian football, this reshapes the registration and response for sponsorship–now needing to adapt to a more challenging and measured sponsorship market, with sports-betting brands still in attendance, but nowhere near as dominant as before.

In short, the betting industry is not vanishing from Brazilian football. The industry is developing and redefining its position in the sports sector.
